hi all,
As I am "Migless" at the present time, been looking on the Bay of F*leas the past couple of weeks for an Omega.
( I must be Mad ;D ;D ;D ;D)
Had bid on a couple that I liked the look of . . only to be just outbid . :( :(
Looking through tonight & both these cars are now back on. One is just listed as before, even though reserve was reached, the other says "re-listed owing to time waster".
What are your opinions on what is happening here ? be interesting to see if anyone thinks the same as me :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

I think sometimes if a car does not reach the price the seller really wants they come back on blaming some fictitious purchaser...... ::) ::)
The less cynical side of me says that sometimes a buyer does not follow through with the purchase... :y

I've bought a few motors from E-b*y over the past few years & have been lucky that they were all correctly advertised & was very happy with all of them.
But if you win one , get there & then don't like it , how do both you & the seller stand legally?
Can the seller do anything ? I suppose not really :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Two answers to that one:
1. Go see the car before you bid
2. If you get there and it's not as described, then walk away.
The seller can't do anything about the last one ::)

It has to be 'as described' or you can walk, I seem to remember Guy backing out of the purchase of a Mk3 Cortina that looked lovely in the pics, but not in the flesh......apologies Guy if this was not you... :y

ive always been led to believe that it is an auction site and if the item is as advertised you have to buy it although legally i dont think they would go to the effort of sueing you for monies as most transactions these days are cash on collection and all would happen is as above..relisted due to time waster..and you get bad feedback or reported OOOOH so waht ;D

If one of them is the one in Rendalsham,I can almost guarantee it was shill bidde last time it was listed. ;)

Without a doubt. I've probably actively bid on 20+ Omegas in the past 12 months, and at least 90% of these have been bid on buy the seller (or his mates) to push the price up. It's massively common on ebay nowadays, with genuine sellers very much being in the minority. :(

My opinion too Albs. :y

I've had several cars from Ebay. The only one that was checked before bidding was the one I have now and that was because Daz bought it on my behalf.
I may have been lucky because I have done very well and all have been as described.
You have to be prepared for trouble though because the only reason they are in an auction is because the buyer doesn't want any come back after the sale in my opinion.

I bought my Mig from ebay a few years ago and bought it the 3rd time it was relisted. :y
The bloke told me that the first time he listed it, it sold for a high price (which I saw) but he never heard from the buyer, so he relisted it and again it sold at a high price (again I was watching) but the buyer turned up and offered him half the winning bid!! So he listed it again and this time there weren't many bids (I guess people decided the car was a wrongun as it was being relisted again!) and I bought it at a good price. When I picked it up the bloke was abit peeved!!! ;D ;D ;D but I was very happy!! :) :) :)
The way I understand ebay is that if you win an auction, then you have a legally binding contract with the seller. If you walk away you take the risk that they'll take legal action. :-\ In practice I don't think anyone would bother over a £500 car, but they might over a £5000 car! ???

sometimes people bid on their own auction using a spare account to push the price up.
sometimes they win it,
most of the time buyers on ebay are t**ssers, who dont turn up, or offer less than the winning bid,
I sold a disco the other year, bloke hit the buy it now, turned up, and tried to give me a lower price as he had to come a long way.
I had put half a tank of fuel in as a goodwill guesture,
