Remember, though, Albs that there are many Iranians who hate the leadership. My next door neighbours are Iranian and they cannot understand how this man stays in power. A corrupt leadership — as is the case in so many countries these days.  >:( >:(

Nick and Cem - I know your right. Which is probably why I inseerted the word tempted.Imo most people in every country are good people and just want to live their lives and pay their bills like everyone else. Its the 4rseholes who grab power and then wreck countries and threaten world peace who I would like to nuke - individually, if it were possible.

Cem,

From Wikipedia:

In the 1990s and the decade following 2000, the Shah's reputation has staged something of a revival, with many Iranians looking back on his era as a time when Iran was more prosperous and the government less oppressive.

Nick ,
shah wouldnt stay in power if some external powers didnt help.. its true during  shah era, iranian economy was better, but only few people were lucky to spend this money..hence why revolution happened.. however, as usual, religous mullahs took the power and kill all others(mostly leftwing -nearly a million killed in prisons, some escaped to here and there) and that was the end of it..

and besides who were producing/buying iranian oil ?

Cem, I'm not Iranian, so it would be wrong of me to comment directly, but I am tempted to believe that life for the average Iranian was better under the Shah. Must ask my neighbour!  ;)

Just shows, you should be careful what you wish for, before staging a revolution.

Many true words in The Who record "Won't get fooled again".

For all the flaws of politicians and the ruling elite, democracy is currently infinitely better than any other system of rule in the world and is easily lost, like in Greece and Italy, who are now ruled from Brussels and Berlin.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

This is why the EUSSR is such a dangerous beast as the unelected, unaccountable EU-elite now rule all EU countries provinces.  >:( >:( >:( >:(

it became a prooven statistical fact that in uneducated/illiterate middle east countries when masses rise up, the management converge to religion which is the common easiest denominator..although they claim to be democratic , name their management as republic and make elections,  they are actually no more democratic than a dictatorial african banana republic..

but more than that, despite the bitter experiment of iran, west seems not to learn anything from this lesson.. and continue to support those religion based non secular govts for their behalf.. whats more interesting when oil sources become risky , they immediately remember democracy and use military action in the name of saving humanity ;D :D

I dont want to name the plentiful examples, but honestly I think one thing must be clearly understood..all media powers are abused and western civilization is affected and prepared for later operations.. :(

Most muslims are peace loving people, its the minority who just want stir up trouble, in my book every one is free to worship who they want & not shove their preferences down anybodies throat, how many wars have been fought over religion.

Fortunately, for the moment at least, Youcef Nadarkhani is still alive. :y

The rumours of his execution are false, though he is still under that threat. :(
