Hi
would not like to guess, but just to let you know I bought my first Omega 3 years ago, I am now on second one, I do a low mileage and I have spent about £450 on parts on the 2 cars to date no labour charges yet.

I think £450 for 3 years motoring is not bad. I have excluded MOT's and tyres and purchase costs as that to me is normal.
It is about to go up as I have just bought a non-runner to repair.

If it makes you feel better; I bought a pug 306 dt last year to sell on. L-reg with "some history". Paid £600 for it.

Turned out it had earned its keep as a runabout at Luton airport. As such it had to be mechanically perfect 100% of the time.

totalling up the bills...

Eleven

thousand

pounds.

Over its life practically the whole car had been replaced bit by bit. I've never seen anything like it.

Needless to say...made a few quid  ;D

I dunno. yeh i cant find a car to replace her. and the way i see it the car i replace her with would need stuff doing to it too. so thats why i stick with the omega and cos you guys are very good at fualt diagnosis.

My Mig that i have just sold would have cost me a small fortune in upkeep, TBH i didn't bother totting it up as it would have scared me whitless

When I got my car a few weeks ago it came with a large ring binder full of history. Total of all bills in the folder (no tyres or petrol) comes to [ch8356]10,674.38p. So that works out to [ch8356]84.72p pcm - thats approx [ch8356]12 pcm more than both my Monaro and Supercharged IS200 in terms of servicing.

However, the miggy will return 27mpg as where my previous cars returned about 12mpg. Isurance on the mig is [ch8356]24pcm v [ch8356]89pcm on the other two. And the mig only cost a shade over [ch8356]1,000 to buy v [ch8356]25,000 (inc modding) for the Monaro and [ch8356]18,000 (inc modding) for the Lexus

so the avarage monthly cost of running a car without tax is around £50 to £80 if you dont pay labour charges.

A big family car that is.

If you think that's bad try doing it once you've built a kit car.  :-X

Think of it as an investment not a money pit. It's a better car than it was when you bought it, and it will be cheaper to maintain from now on. (Honest)

It's the low capital cost of acquiring an Omega, and the acceptable depreciation on an older car, which is the draw for me, and this makes me less sensitive to repair/maintenace/running costs. Provided it isn't a complete bummer, we end up with good motoring for a very reasonable total outlay in most cases.
Just think what you'd have had to pay in total for a more conventional option of the same age.

Most of mine, as can be seen, is servicing.  Had very few problems, the French one being an exception, which is in line with my views that keep her well maintained, she'll look after me....

Marie, very interesting, I have also kept a log (how sad) on the running cost of my 2.5 '98 Elite. over 2 1/2 years (30month) 64,000 miles, total spent = £3,215 ie £107 per month. plus (this bit is really sad) 2,286 gallons of unleaded at the cost of £9,945. Each financial year I can claim business miles a the rate of, the first 10k at 0.40p per mile, then 0.25p thereafter. The idea was to claim moneies to fund the car each 12 month period for business use, I subsidize the company now, all due to Mr Brown and his Ladour party (his time is running out).
Sorry for the lecture.
regards
richard a

Look on the bright side. If you had bought her new just think how much the depreciation would have been per month without petrol, repairs etc. Good value cars at that age :y :y :y

I can't understand why there was never a suitable replacement. They are thought of with high regard by more people than a lot of us tend to think. I have had nothing but praise/good comments from everyone I know who have seen my cdx :) :) :)

only had my elite estate a few months and wouldn't change it now. thought my honda was dear to run, £375 for middle and rear box, £240 annual service etc etc , but i find my miggy about the same, not much difference in petrol consumption on a run either. I look upon it as i would a woman.. if you love it it's worth the money. :)

Same here about my estate their is nothin on the market that has got the same load space and feels as comfortable as the omega.

every one who has driven in it loves it and the space you get to.

my dogs have plenty of room in the boot, where as a 4x4, mpv and other estates are no match!

got a few funny remarks from my mates at work as to why i was buying an "old" car, but as they have used my services a few times recently helping them move stuff i think it has turned into quiet admiration. ;) :)
