Is it really?  ???

Pre mini-facelifts did suffer from "dead" pixels, not being able to display words correctly, however the whole unit remained fully operational, just would get worse and worse.

Post mini-facelift, so 1998.5ish, the displays are practically bullet proof. Hardly ever go wrong....

I'd take the instrument panel out as per the guide (dead easy) - Reseat the connector on the back of the MID  :y

Make sure you have some spare bulbs too, often disturbing the panel, a bulb will blow.

Very early ones were problematic, later ones seem to be a bit more reliable.

Ah if its Bose then its a GID, its a half height display? These tend to be even more reliable than standard MID's.

Looks roughly like this?

IIRC, Its only the ccrt700 that has the half display, the ccr800 has a full display

The CCRT700 is the work of the devil.  *ANY* 'Infotainment' (as GM call it) problems on a CCRT700 equipped car, pull the HU out for an hour.
