Title: Few issues with f/l V6 CDX
Post by: CaptainMorgan on 08 March 2012, 18:04:14
Just acquired an early facelift CDX V6 estate, collected it from Plymouth earlier and on the drive home found a couple of issues.

My main concern is the brakes - under braking the car dives slightly to the right and the steering tightens up, I did think at first a caliper may be stiff (the car hasn't moved for 4 months), but it didn't get any better on the 50 mile drive home. Should I look into stripping the caliper off and recompressing the pistons?

The handling is all over the shop (previously I've had a pair of prefacelift Omegas and a post facelift) though this may be down to the balloon tyres (225/65/16 winter tyres!) fitted.

The sunroof is a pig to close - the obstruction detector thinks something is in the way.

Any ideas on how to solve these issues would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Scott

I'd be looking at the front wishbones for iffy bushes as well the brakes/calipers.

Sunroof could just be due to lack of use, maybe lub'ing the mechanism on either side of the roof will help.

Have you reset sunroof, as per procedure in the manual - assuming you have manual?

225-65-16  :o

Should be 225-55-16 at most, which could explain some 'boat' handling problems if it's not a typo.  :-\

Sadly not a typo ;D - they're bloody huge!

Ideally I'd like to find a set of the 17" early facelift Elite 5-spokes, but if a decent set of 55 profile tyres come along for the right money i'll get them fitted.

Only picked the car up this afternoon, so not been able to look into the problems yet. I've got all the owners pack (and FSH!) - are the sunroof reset instructions in the owners handbook or do I need to grab a proper manual?

On ebay there is a trader doing pairs of front wishbones and droplinks for £70 - seems like a good deal?

Cheers

The sunroof reset instructions are in the glovebox manual provided with car.  Not sure if its under Sunroof, or under changing battery etc...

Only if you like doing them regularly ;D

Check the state of yours first, dont just change stuff on a hunch :y

Will do. Anything in particular I should look for? There's no knocking or clonking when going over potholes or speedbumps so I don't think the lower balljoints are at fault, I guess the bushes themselves could give a lot of movement but no noises?

Ok, are the bushes easy to change? Upgrading to PU bushes seems a sensible idea if i've got to change them.
