Title: Yet another cam belt question.
Post by: Murph on 09 March 2012, 23:29:01
I'm looking at doing the cam belt on my 2.5 soon as it's been a few years since it was last done, although it's within the specified mileage.

I have looked about for the parts and can get a belt kit and water pump for £110.09 delivered from Buypartsby.

Does that sound like about the right kind of price?

Thankfully I have access to a cam locking kit and all the necessary tools so at least that's sorted.

When I looked on buypartsby there were six different kits all stating 225 teeth but with slightly different part numbers, although they would appear to be from the same manufacturer as all the part numbers start with SAF.  Any Ideas as to which one to order?

I've seen the cambelt kits less water pump going for about 110 on the pit. So I guess your price looks pretty good. Is it a Gates belt?

The ad doesn't specify a make, but James seems to be quite confident that it will be a Contitech.

I've never used one of those - are they any good?

How much space do we need?
Enough space to park as many cars as will turn up - lets say 5 or 6, with room to work on at least one at a time.
Preferably with some cover in case of wet stuff.

OK so I have gone into buypartsby's website and entered my reg no etc, and it has given me several options.

Can anyone shed any light on which one (http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/timing-belts-and-kits-final.php?make=Vauxhall&model=Omega&sub=&eng=2.5&year=1998) I should order?

My car is a 1998 S 2.5CDX estate.

You need the engine number.  :P

Maybe so, but there is nowhere on the website to enter one.
If I do need it, where can I find it - the DVLA is dragging it's heels getting a V5 to me.

When you buy the belt aren't you meant to enter the reg number so they send out the right one? I'm not sure I didn't use them to get mine.
