Title: FFS We're dropping like flies!
Post by: Amigo on 10 March 2012, 23:08:21
I phoned my aunty Sue about 3 weeks ago. I knew she was'nt well but we had a lovely chat & arranged to take her out for lunch one saturday. I said i'd drive her & be happy not to drink or smoke & she said to call back in a couple of weeks. I was thinking about doing so then got a phone call from my uncle John this morning. Yeah you can see it coming, she's left us as well. It does'nt hurt like losing Mum does but she was lovely & i was that close to seeing her again. She was only in Fishtoft, (near Boston) so only an hour's drive away.

Uncle John is ok but elderly & frail himself. He only lives in the Peak District (which he loves) & i've been "meaning" to have lunch with him too but still not got round to it...well i will now. I was'nt in time for Sue but at least we had a phone chat.

If any of you have elderly loved ones that you intend to catch up with "soon", Get on with it. Soon can come sooner than you think.

Sorry for yet more bad news, Guy.

Can completly agree with that Amigo

Visited my Uncle (last of my dad and his brothers) the xmas before last with his usual bottle of whisky pressie and had a good old chat. Left saying i would call again in a few weeks, got tied up with work and in the March got the phone call. He had been ill for a good few weeks and did not recover. Regret not making the time now and he lived only 15 mins away.

This has made me determined to go and do those little jobs I have been putting off for my Auntie next week !!!!

Agree with you Amigo,

And it's not just elderly loved ones that you intend to catch up "soon", even friends they same age as ourselves.

A few years ago, had a friend I hadn't seen for ages, found out they were in hospital in a bad way, but hoping to recover soon.  Said I'd get over there again and catch up properly, never did get the chance to, got a call from the wife to say he had passed away due to difficulties of his condition :'( .  Still kick myself even now that I didn't make the journey.

Sorry to hear the bad news Amigo and you're right what you say "Get on with it. Soon can come sooner than you think".  :o

Keep in touch? Yes we all say it but something always seems to prevent it happening. Maybe it is time that we gave up being so embroiled in our little worlds and lives and became like yesteryears people who really did meet and greet often in one way or another.
Has society really become that selfish we care only for those in plain sight, or those from whom we can get something to benefit ourselves?
