hi,my 97 2.5 cdx which i put a second hand auto box on in march 07 as its box was well shot has started to slip when cold and coming home tonight lost drive and computer came up saying automatic gearbox,i stopped the car put it in park + switched off engine then restarted and it drove off normally, also might add it wasnt in limp mode before i switched off engine, also have noticed if it messes me about its when cold/first mile or so of driving, when fully warmed up it performs perfectly, its oil was changed when the box was fitted 44,000 miles ago in 07,wondered what gurus on here reckon?

What's the fluid level like for starters? Appreciate it was replenished some time ago, but there may be a leak?
My old box seemed to be leaking a little!
-
gone into vauxhall today for full fluid and filter change as has got worse today, slipping badly now and going into limp mode/thank god for my faithfull high miles 3.2 mv6 for transport!!
-
had oil and filter changed at vauxhall dealers, they found some small bits of plastic in sump tray when removing!! said they had driven it upto temp and seemed to be ok,so payed them £189.00 !! for there trouble, got two streets away and guess what, rev counter hit the ceiling again,no drive other than in limp mode computer saying automatic gearbox, but interestingly when stopping and switching off engine then re starting it drives ok again for a bit, looks like another box for me,biggest wrench is loosing £189.00 hard earnt pounds just to find out its mullered!!
-
the bits they found are the remains of your thrust washer. Upon finding that, they should never have done the atf change. Incompetent, robbing barstewards.... where are you located?
-
you need a full refund. If you want an endorsement letter from me with my letterhead I will do you one, feel free to PM me. Am out tonight though :y
-
Doubt it needs a new box .. just the box dropping and a new thrust washer at a guess .... thieving bar stewards :(
-
if its been ongoing a while, the pump faces will be shot and need machining... In my case, my sprag clutch was broken up too. A known good box may be just as economical for sake of a few pounds... :y

torquay, devon, what does this thrust washer do then? would it give these symtoms of severe slipping? it drove a1 all over the weekend, crap mon onwards!!
-
If you could get it up to me, I would gladly change the box, first week in april.
-
thrust washer issue explained in maintenance guides on here. Cannot post links. Using silly phone :(
-
in reply to your previous question it has been slipping a bit when stone cold for about a month, but as i use my mv6 2 weeks a month and this one the other 2 not been too noticeable,a good s,hand box off e-bay and local garage to fit me thinks.
-
i wouldnt have the nerve to drive it more than 5 miles engines reving away like mad now box has had it,im not using it for now sodding thing!!

yeh just read about it they gave me the bits they found and they are indeed the bits of the thrust washer by the looks of it.
-

I should imagine the old oil went straight in the engine oil drainer.
