Title: andriod phone / msn email question
Post by: tigers_gonads on 12 March 2012, 18:02:41
I've been using a samsung galaxy phone for the past 18 months.
When I got it, I setup my hotmail address on it so I could keep track of emails while i'm away from the laptop.
Right, the thing works great but one thing keeps bugging me.
Sometimes when I clear the inbox and send it to trash, 2 hours later, my inbox is full of emails from oct 2009  :o :o
These are all dated within a couple of days of each other  :o
It doesn't matter how many times I delete these messages, you can bet your life they will come back sometime  >:(
Also, sometimes I seem to get emails (with no title or any contents) arive in the inbox dated from the year 1970  :o :o

What the hell is happening  :-\

This is a serious question.
NOT a windup !

As far as I can tell it's because the phone compares it's own inbox with your actual MSN inbox, then anything that it finds online that it doesnt already have it treats as new mail.
When you delete mail on your phone it just goes from your phone - NOT your MSN inbox.

So... you delete mail from your phone, then it checks online and says 'hey... new mail!' and promptly downloads the whole lot over again.

Mail from 1970 is a mystery to me though!

What happens if you mark all your messages as read on the MSN Server, download from mobile again then delete on the phone?

Any sub folders on your MSN inbox.

No idea about the 1970s bit though, corrupted Data Base?

No sub folders on laptop or phone

This only ever happens on the phone.
Normal access to hotmail via laptop seems to work without problems.

Normally there is a setting for deletion. Phone only OR phone and server. If you use the setting of phone and server, normally when you exit the email program on the phone is should up date the server and delete them there. Also when requesting messages from server, request ONLY new messages, not ALL.
If all else fails, log on to hotmail, delete all the mails you don't want, and go from there.

I'm assuming your phone is just synching with your hotmail account.....so log on to your hotmail account from a pc and delete the emails from there.....next time your phone syncs with your hotmail account they should disapear  :)

Ive just done the same with my gmail account.....my gmail account syncs with my isp's inbox....my phone then syncs with gmail......logged into my gmail account.....deleted all emails....then i forced a sync on my phone....all 1500 emails gone  :y I havent actually lost any emails....as my laptop downloads all emails from my isp's inbox.....gmail and my phone just 'mirror' whats in my isp's inbox  :y

Mine works perfectly with btinternet.

Go into settings>accounts and sync and make sure background data is ticked and auto sync is ticked. Your accounts should be listed below and the sync symbol should be green.

All Android mail clients are awful.  Its one of the reasons I chose to be bent, and have an iPhone.

Worth trying the available free email clients, you may find one that almost works for you.

Pml  ;D ;D

Problem is, its a business email address that I have used for something like 15 years and is on pretty much every bellbox sticker, camara caseing, business card and letter head printed in that time  :(

I know what you mean about the gayphone  ;D
I had one for 4 years before this phone and never had a problem.
Just don't want to pay 40 quid a month when I never get close to using the allocated minutes  >:(
Plus i've loads of daft ringtones, screen savers ect that I can stick on any andriod phone  :(

Only about 2 weeks before I got an iPhone...

...it all started when I bought that gold, sorry Champayne, Omega about 2 years ago. And it had a brown interior, so the steering wheel was like holding a turd.  Within days of buying it, I had an urge to be gay, so bought the gayPhone. Then that Gixer bloke kept calling me...

I'm trying to stay firmly in the closet, but he keeps chatting me up with lines like 'You may find there are settings listed on the internet'.

Settings......oh yeah? ::)
