Yes  :(

Now its past the mot, I am trying to track down this whine i've had for the last few months.
At first, you only got it when you accerated hard in 1st or 2nd.
Now, you get more of a rumble when you are just coasting along with the car in gear but your foot off the gas.

Been going round in circles for a while now and getting nowhere with it  :(

Hmm. JamesV6's auto gearbox started with a whine, IIRC... ::)

Noise disapears.
Also no noise on a part throttle that I can hear

That rules out wheel bearing and diff I reckon.....have you checked the oil in your gearbox?

When you say thrust bearing are you talking release bearing or the small pilot bearing in the end of the crank....

So, does the noise get louder or quieter with the clutch pedal lightly pressed?

Gearbox level ish and level plug on the side is off.
Not dribbleing out so I take it it needs a top up.

Can I use EP80W-90 ?

Right, just managed to get 0.9 ltrs of oil in the gearbox before it started dribbling out.  :-[

Took it for a rather spirited drive to get things nicely warmed up  ;)
Box seems to change gear the same. The whineing noises are still there but have changed tone and are nowhere near as loud so it looks like i've done some damage in there  :-[

With the car rolling and out of gear, you can still hear a rumbleing sound from the gearbox / transmision.  Put it in gear and put your foot down and it disapears.

Definetly got a whine from under the bonnet.
Already changed the utility tentioner / pully and the water pump has only done 5000 miles so it looks like the cam belt tensioner next.
