Title: Estate rear shocks

Can anyone recomend a set or rear shocks for a 1997 2.5 V6 estate, i know theres loads all over ebay but thought if others have had good results from a particular place its handy to know

I see some KYB replacement shocks and have come across these before on other cars and thought they quite good, has anyone got them on there Omega?

Got them on an mv6 here, standard ride hight, firmer ride maybe, might be the 18's on it though. :-\

Not sure on kyb prices fot shocks though, I'm under the impression Gm shocks on tc might be cheaper, and boge through allgermanparts  might be worth a try as well

GM originals are BOGE so get BOGE's from a motor factor and see, they will have GM -codes on them  :y

Right, to carry on this saga, lol

I got a pair of brand new Record shocks from ebay £60 delivered and they have made the rear of the car softer than it was with the old shocks on, yes yes i know one takes one chance with ebay stuff sometimes, thankfully i can return them for a full refund inc postage back to them too.

ordered some heavy duty (uprated) shocks from my local supplier and got the call that there in to collect today, had a look at them and there KYBs but not very stiff compared to the shocks i removed, very easily compressible. They had in some supposedly stock shocks made by LIP gastec (no 179.135) supplied by QH which are completely different. much harder to compress and retract and much chunkier in appearance and a lot heavier too, and as there £8 each cheaper i took them. will fit them this afternoon and see what happens

I note you have an Estate car
If you tow & carry extra weight from time to time
Have you thought of Monroe Ride Levelers?
They work with air assistance very similar to Omega's auto level system
And can be just about made to work automatically for very little extra
Obviously they are more expensive than the Std ones
But are a very practical worthwhile Upgrade :y  :y

This is what I have put on mine and since I do a lot of towing they have been excellent. Just pump them up when needed and it makes all the difference to towing, car is a much firmer smoother ride

Well there fitted and wow!!! the difference is amazing. no more floppy rear end and its actually quite firm but not excessively so.

Heres a little vid of how the 3 types stack up to each other, first part is old shock to the left and new ebay shock on the right, second part is old on the left and new Gastec shock on the right.

Think a place called AtoZ Motor Spares @ Dewsburry still do Monroe Ride Levelers
Seem to remember theres a differance with Estate V Saloon Types

Monroe Ride Levellers every time on our Estates - and great for towing the caravan! :y

And yes - Estates are different to Saloons! ;)

That made me laugh, also I went to all of the bother of switching on my amp just to hear whether you managed to compress those shocks without grunting, well done!
