Title: Engines with HG failure left standing for a long time. Problems?

I picked up a couple of V6 engines, both with suspected HG failure. Lots of horrid oily watery sludge all over the place, both engines full of mayo.

I chucked the engines in the corner and forgot about them for eighteen months or more while I've been getting on with other projects (hence my lack of activity on here of late!). The time is fast approaching where I was planning on rebuilding them.

So the question is; having left these engines full of mayo crap for so long, what kind of additional damage will that have done; will the oily mess be extra corrosive meaning the engines are as good as chocolate, or will I just need to pay extra attention to this bits I need to work on? The previous engines I've rebuilt after HG were done more or less as soon as the failure occurred.

Depends if there's water in the cylinder that's rusted and possibly pitted the bore?

I suppose the only way to tell would be to take the heads off and crank by hand. Then go from there, or not, as the case may be.

yeah i guess the mayo isnt a problem as it's got so much oil in it. will have to take a look when the heads are off. hopefully all is well. who knows, perhaps it was an oil cooler fault after all hehe
