I'll have to be careful not to get TB's addiction for repairing 'white goods' ::)
Symptom was drum wasnt turning, seemed to be doing everything else tho.
Unplugged the motor wiring from the circuit board looking for burnt out connectors.....couldnt see any so plugged them back in. Looked over the circuit board carefully looking for burnt out components and burnt out tracks.....couldnt see any.
Unplugged the connectors at the motor, again looking for burnt out connectors, couldnt see any, so plugged them back in.
Turned the power on and hey presto :o the drum started turning again 8)
So i decided that it must have been a bad connection, possibly at the motor end as that connector suffers from the most vibration when the drum is spinning :)
Thats just saved a few hundred quid on a new machine :)

Seems it's too late mate. Please don't forget to send him some from the saved amount of money after all he is your mentor, isn't he... :D :D :D

Cant see that being the cause....maybe the motor brushes are worn right down and distrubing it got them to make contact again.
Needs further work!
-
Given the symptoms, I'd be investing a few quid on some brushes...
-
I find this approach works wonders

Buuugger >:( It died again last night.....started off washing ok....then drum stopped turning again >:(
Theres 6 wires going to the motor......im guessing its a speed control... :-\

Get yourself one of these, foolproof :y

Come on Dave, lets not over complicate it...... ;D :y
.....start with the basics, motor not working, can fail mid cycle.....are there any consumable items associated with this part.....yes, motor brushes so pop them out and check them.
Always remember that electronics are reliable.....mechanics and rotating electrics less so. :y

I wasnt trying too.....just wondering why the 6 wires?? :-\
And yes you are correct.....it does seem to be knackered brushes :y
Just tried it on a spin cycle (so i can get the very wet clothes out of it) and nothing.....
So took the back off and gave the motor a whack......tried it again and it was off again spinning.....however i could see and hear arching going on in the motor.....so brushes it is :y
Thanks guys :y

Do we need to start an OOF dishwasher & washing machine forum? ::)

Six wires is a low number for these.
The basics would be
2 for the tacho
2 for the stator
2 for the rotor
Some versions (e.g. older ones) have extra stator windings which is switched series/parralel to get different speeds plus they may also use field weakening to.
Modern ones just bugger with the field to control speed.

Just got the motor off and popped the brushes out.....looking at pics on the interwebby...new ones seem to be 2-3 cm long.....mine are about 0.5 cm long.....new ones on order :y

Tight bugger!
I seem to recall they use siemens motors.
Be aware that cheap brushes tend to wear quickly, create loads of carbon dust and can damage the com......
Brushes are one of the things I never skimp on as the design of them is a bit of a black art...

Helping me to fix my washing machine is more important than messing with your car ;) ;D

Got the new brushes yesterday......and fitted them today.
Only stabbed myself in the hand once with a pair of scissors.....dont ask ::) .....but it can be very fidley trying to persuade the spring that it should stay in place whilst trying to fit the terminal in place.
Gave it a test drive on a spin only programme with nothing inside it....it worked :y
Thanks for all your help guys :)

I suspect thats a proper fix TD :y
Now go cook the OOF dog some sausages ;D
