Title: 3.0 Buying Advice
Post by: D7 on 17 March 2012, 22:01:55
Hi Folks,

Been away from this forum and Omega's for about a year now, since I sold my X reg 2.5 V6 Auto to my dad due to crippling fuel costs.

Anyway, I stupidly bid (and subsequently won) a pre-facelift S reg 3.0 Auto Estate, Elite model on a commonly used auction site last night. Its going to be used as a second car, appears clean enough, only a small bit of bubbling at the base of a couple of the doors, but low mileage for age and it has history.

Its a local car, so I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go and have a look tomorrow. Fortunately as it's a second car, the fuel costs aren't so much of a concern, but is there anything in particular I need to be aware of with the 3.0?

Thanks in advance,

John.

exactly the same issues as the 2.5 when I asked a similar question a while ago. check cambelt due date. cam covers leak. exhaust manifolds blow. dis pack can go. HBV leaks. They are some of the common ones.

if its a 98ish car then the headgaskets can sometimes go wierdly, only on 98/99ish cars though on just the 3.0

Most problems are from owner neglect(oil changes). These cars need regular maintenance or you can get costly repair bills-But plenty of advice/help on here to solve any issues :y Though personally prefer 2.5 to 3.0
