Title: Exhaust emission light briefly flashing and lazy kickdown
Post by: WinRAR on 18 March 2012, 17:02:04
Hi.

I've took my Omega today after having it stopped for a couple of weeks.

Then I started the engine and the emissions light flashed like mad. Inmediately, I stopped the engine, started it again twice and no more flashing. I got out for a half hour or so trip and the light didn't show again.

I know I should check fault codes, but I won't be able to do it until the end of the month.

I've not noticed anything strange in the car except maybe the car behavior under kickdown. I seem to remember the rev counter going straight into 6000 rpm inmediately after the kickdown, but today it went just to 4000, and it was going downhills.

Can be related? Is kickdown to 4000 and slow climbing to 5000-6000 usual?

 :(

Edit: I'm talking about an auto Omega 3.2 V6 (Opel), with cured 120/130 (by placing the O2 sensors after the main cat as in the forum guide).

Then I started the engine and the emissions light flashed like mad.

Forgot to say that while the light was flashing the engine was emitting a nasty backfire sound.

Usual suspect. Can it cause the lazy response on kickdown?

Yep. As its the easy side, see the maintenance section for a tip on removing coil PAC.
Wip the bugger out and check there's no oil or water in the plug wells.
Usual suspect. Can it cause the lazy response on kickdown?

Ok. I've asked about the kickdown issue. I've been told that the stored misfire codes make the ECU switch to safe mode, and that it explains the lazy kickdown.

Possible?
