hi guys im picking up an omega 2.2dti in a couple of weeks he mentioned 2 things that im slight concerned abot.
1. there is a slow leak of oil from the bottom end? what could it be other than loose sump pluggy....
and
2. he says when the car is up to temperature when sitting on idle the oil light sometimes flickers on off??? faulty sensor/ low pressure
please guys ease my mind lol :-X :o

First thing I would do is drop the sump and check the strainer, then a couple of short interval oil changes :y
That may well cure the oil light flicker and possibly the leak as well, but a good clean up will make it easier to spot the leak ;)
-
okay is it torx fitting bolts on the sump and can it be removed easy?
-
Not familiar with the oil burners but someone will be along :y
-
There was an 03 plate on ebay with an oil problem? was that the car? Norwich or Norfolk way?
-
yer thats the one
-
I was considering that but was worried about low oil pressure being the issue and it scared me off. You watch now will probably be something simple ;D
-
i hope so i had an 02 2.5 cdx auto that seized cos of strainer problems so im not falling for it again lol

Main candidates for oil leaks on DTi's are:-
Minor oil leaks from the head gasket area but they are so minor it's not worth dealing with.
Oil coolers (external on the DTI)
The sump pans can go rusty and it's not always spotted because the undertray covers it.
Oil filter lid / O ring not sealing.

hi there,
thanks for the list lol
the chap who im getting it off said its from under the engine somewhere, so other than the sump plug not being tight enough what else could it be rusty sump?

Certainly I'd look at the sump seal and everything sump related :y
-
Front crank seal or maybe the the rear crank seal. Sump gasket. Rusty sump. Best bet is to get it up in the air and give it a good clean then fire it up and see if it's obvious. Don't discount also oil running down from the top along the back of the block etc.

many thanks guys for all your comments im part exing my 1.8 mondeo for it but im gunna load up the car with ramps and tools when i go down to get it so i can hopefully sort the leak for the 2 hour drive back

My concern would be the fact its been used for 2000 miles with a flickering oil warning light :(
-
Indeed, for me a flickering oil light is a big worry as this may be quite a few things.
-
it could be just the oil pressure switch on its way out and might even be the cause of the oil leak,i had 1 do this a long time ago :y

Guessing you must have seen the advert then. If it was just at idle there's a fair chance it will be ok :-\

Had a Saab diesel a few weeks ago with the oil light flickering at idle and oil pressure switch leaking, new switch cured it :y
