Title: Oil cooler or head gasket???
Post by: prestigesec on 30 March 2008, 18:36:47
Hi just after a bit of advice please guys seen a 3.0L V6 elite estate on an S plate with 79.000miles on the clock for sale they say it has either a failed oil cooler or head gasket that has gone on it as oil is mixing with water. They say it is more likely to be the oil cooler though, so what i would like to know is what is the most common of the 2, could it be both and how much would they cost roughly to repair? Car looks in mint condition and should go cheap other wise i wouldnt be bothering with it. Thank you in advance for your answers.

apparently the oil cooler is fairly common, head gasket failure on v6 is quite rare (but not impossible).

i know the motor you mean. my first concern would be to find out why it is up for sale again; the car in question was sold a week ago, so i guess if it's that great i would be wondering why the person buying it is no longer interested and why it is back on sale. just a thought.

Thought that myself to be honest, might just be a non showing bidder but then again might be a load of crap! Just to far away from me just to have a look

He could be bidding the price up himself.

Could be seen a couple of cars with very strange bids on them obviosly done by themselves £999.99 you just wouldnt put a bid like that in if you wanted to buy something? Dont you have to pay commision on it still though

true, but then again i guess there's no real way of knowing either way. you could try contacting the previous buyer, or maybe check their profile for any similar activity etc. if they are pushing the price then i think they might be expecting too much for it.
