Title: Mv6 omega wont rev past 4k revs?? also knocking in engine?? HELP!!!
Post by: steve-yfzracer on 21 March 2012, 11:08:05
Hi, like the title says my 3.2 v6 omega wont rev past 4k and their is a knocking at the top of the engine, this happened when the fan belt bust and the car also boiled at the same time ( guessing the belt runs the water pump??) The engine management light is also on..

I have read a few places that the 4k rev restriction is linked with crank sensor/cam sensor, and when the belt bust it broke 2 pipes leading to 2 sensors. But I dont know why the top of my engine is knocking?? If got new sensors would this solve the problem??

Any help would be appreciated, Thanks..

Read thee codes and post them up, see the pedal test to find out how.

Crank sensor wont result in limp mode, cam sensor would but thats pretty bullet proof. The favourite is damaged knock sensor wiring but the codes will reveal all!

The aux belt does run the water pump.

Best to get it fault free before deciding on the cause of top end noise.

FWIW, my knock sensors are both disconnected with no limp mode issues :-\. O2 sensors diconnected definitly put the car in to limp mode, like hitting a wall at 4k :'(.  Mine is a manual though and the knock sensors may upset the gearbox :-\

As Mark has said codes will reveal all :y
