One of the things that bugs me is watching the budget, they do all this "cheering", for fek sake, they are like school children in there.
I would not mind paying more for road tax, if there was an increased investment in the roads, but its not. Some of the main roads are in an appalling state.
Slovenia has better roads than we do!

Having been there, I'd love too. When BSkyB launches there, I'd ask for a transfer!

The House of Commons is really just the school debating society made up of older members with lower mental ages..

From the budget:
Motoring taxation
1.205 Budget 2012 announces that vehicle excise duty (VED) rates will increase in
line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) only from April 2012, and rates for heavy goods
vehicles will be frozen.
1.206 The Government will consider whether to reform VED over the medium term,
to ensure that all motorists continue to make a fair contribution to the sustainability of the
public finances, and to reflect continuing improvements in vehicle fuel efficiency. In addition,
the Government aims to develop a direct debit system to allow motorists to spread
their VED payments. The Government will seek the views of motoring groups on these
measures.
Which tells you nothing really, I suppse, but that's what's in the budget document..

There was something on the TV the other night about the state the roads are in. A fella on there said not all of the road fund licence goes to actually fixing the roads. Tell me something I didn't know!

None of it need go on the roads in fact - because it's not a tax to pay for roads.. ;) It's a tax on owning a car used on the public roads.
This excise duty was ring-fenced for road construction and was paid directly into a special Road Fund from 1920 until 1937 after which it was treated as general taxation.
In other words.. it's really "just another tax" >:(
