You can buy a converter lead to change the interface from the 12 pin on your car to the later 16 pin OBD 2 pin. Now I've got one but as of yet haven't tried it with the software I've got. So don't know what systems will work. I also have a Tech 1 with a mass storage cartridge which has nearly all the vauxhall range from that period, however i feel you maybe some distance away from me. You can carry out a "paper clip" test on your car and by counting the flashes of the EML light work out the codes stored in the ECU. However you can't erase the codes and will not be able to tell which ones are current and which ones are old.

You need one of these.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TECH-1-VETRONIX-SCAN-TOOL-GM-FORD-CHRYSLER-SYSTEM-KIT-/180850516650?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item2a1b87e2aa&vxp=mtr#ht_903wt_1270 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/TECH-1-VETRONIX-SCAN-TOOL-GM-FORD-CHRYSLER-SYSTEM-KIT-/180850516650?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item2a1b87e2aa&vxp=mtr#ht_903wt_1270)

But you also need the right cartridge to go with it. The Tech 1 is quite rare in Britain. You may have to buy the unit from the USA then search for a cartridge from Germany but they don't come up very often. If you can find what is called a Mass storage cartridge you will get all the Vauxhall/opel cars from that period. However this is even rarer.

The connector is called an ALDL connector, but there is NO simple software to connect it to your laptop.

What problem do you have?  Maybe we could help?

iirc you can short pins a and b in the connector, and use the fault light to flash out codes like you can on an omega too.

Google for exact details, on the topbuzz website if memory serves correctly

It seems an awful lot of money to spend in order to read the fault codes, when all you need is a paperclip!

There is absolutely no danger to the ECU when using the paperclip test.
If you PM me your email address I can send you instructions.
