Quite a change of plan, this weekend.
I need to be in Amsterdam, from Friday early evening onwards, until anytiime Sunday.
I have tried Easyjet, BMI baby, British airways, flybe, Jet2, pretty much every airline I can think of, and the prices on these dates are extortionate!! I have even looked at flying into Eindhoven and doing the final leg by train - that's even more crazy, even with Ryanair!
Eurostar is OK at around £100 for each of us BUT it gets us in too late on the Friday.... (11:45pm)
Bit lost for what to do here, I may end up getting up very early on the Friday, and drive over in the MV6, with a dover/calais ferry...
Any tips please? :y

mate at BBC went to a PHP thing there, he took the bus! Think he paid around £50 return all in
Its a long trip, but it was dirt cheap. He did book some time in advance, given you are going this weekend prob quite a bit more.

Thanks ever so for the link. Sadly when trying to get a quote: We are sorry but you cannot book a trip online when the departure is within 36 hours from booking

Thinking about it, no tolls, a night run, you could do it in less than 3 :y

Flight costs for weekends are pricey.
Just booked a business trip for next Thursday/Friday to Schipol (then train to Eindhoven/Helmond) and that was 96 retrun....but its in the week (BMI Baby from East Midlands).
Eurostar works well and the dutch railways are very good.

DFDS from Dover to Dunkerque :y . Cheaper than PnO and gets you nearer to Holland too :y
I could drive you over if you wanted, but looking at approx 300 each way at a pound a mile, could do the return for 500. :y Would need to get a passport though ::)
-
RIGHT...
We are sailing out, DFDS Dover to Dunkirk...
And back, Calais to Dover with P&O (Timings this way worked out best for us)
Total £88
Soooo.... how much is it going to cost in LPG to get us to Amsterdam and back :D

Also, anyone know where is best to get gas? Fill up at Dover before we sail over? Or France/Belgium/Netherlands?
Do I need an adaptor, to fill up over there? :-\

IME hypermarkets are the best bet, and the exchange rate will decide if it's cheaper over there than over here ...
This site is pretty accurate IME for both locations and prices in France.

You will need an adaptor ... its an "Italian" Cup ... screws onto UK fitting and the filler slots into the cup .. mine looks a bit like this

I don't know why .. but I have a feeling Belgium either uses UK fittings, or something different to France ... not been there yet ....well with the car anyway ....
EDIT .. Belgium uses "ACME" thread apparently ...

Hypermarkets don't usualy sell the adaptors at the pumps .. but may do "inside" , however a "proper" petrol station that sells GPL will usually sell adaptors.
-
James .. if you are in the Swindon area tomorrow you can borrow my French adaptor... I won't need it until July .... if you can't find one locally to you ...
You still have my number I expect :)
-
James .. if you get the right adaptors ... these two short vids might be of use ... :)

James, Belgium is normally cheaper for LPG. Be very careful in Holland as GNG is quite popular (moreso than LPG IIRC) and, obviously, not compatible. I bought both my adapters at a French motorway services (in the filling station) for less than I could get them over here. Aditionally, many filling stations have them you can borrow but that just slows you down. Make sure you have a pair of pliers handy to remove the adapter if you over tighten it :-[ ::) Hand tight only and even then the process of filling can make it tighter ::)
Have a good trip! Oh, AFAIK, LPG is currently cheaper here in the UK than everywhere other than hypermarkets in France
-
Cheers guys...
Soo it appears looking at that link, that the dutch filler is the same as the UK one?
That's fine - I Can fill somewhere near Dover, and top up near Amsterdam somewhere.
To be honest, I have a usable capacity of around 75 litres, that should on a cruise, just about be enough to get me from Dunkirk > Amsterdam > Calais anyway....
Nige, many thanks for the offer, I think I'll probably buy some though, always handy :y
-
I havn't been there for a while, but the BP station on the left just as you get into Dover does LPG. :y

Certainly used to.... Pricey though ;)
ISTR I paid about 16 Euros for both adapters in a services when I bought them (in the UK they were about £6 each plus postage and the exchange rate was much better too ::)) and they live in the car :y
I would recommend filling in Belgium if you can as it does seem to be cheaper :y According to This Site (http://www.energy.eu/) it is anyway (scroll down for LPG prices) :y
Might be worth brimming the petrol tank while you're over there... I think it's a bit cheaper still :-\
