Title: The penny in my engine
Post by: liz1968 on 28 March 2012, 12:44:19
How could I tell if the penny has gone in my 3.0 Elite 99 model. I put water in my expansion tank and the water pours out without starting the engine. It pours out at the back of the engine towards the back underneath as quick as I`m pouring the water in as quick as it is pouring out with gurgling noise. Anyone available to help advice me on this problem please  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :( :( :(

It's clearly a catestrophic leak! So shouldn't be hard to identify.

I'd be available to have a look one day next week, but at a 320 mile round trip, it'd cost you nearly a tank of LPG :(

sounds like something has failed near the heater bypass valve

easiest way of tracing the problem is get someone to fill the expansion bottle while you trace where the water is emerging from.  with a leak like that it will not take long

see the maintainance guides for heater bypass value to give you an idea of the pipes around there

As RobG's post - look at post #6 - if it's pouring out likely to be that hose  ;)

If you mean the "core plug" circled red in this pic, they`re doable in situ but obviously easier with head off. I`d be inclined to lean over engine and get your hand at the back to confirm the plug has gone.

I agree with Rob, they can be fitted whilst on the car but its a little tight and so a bit of a pain.
You can put your hands down the back and feel as again Rob said to see if the Core Plugs have come out. the Dispack seating plate needs to be moved to enable to to fit them on the passenger side (picture with circles on the core plugs)
