Put the key in and turned it, feels ok, not stiff at all

Is the driver's door unlocking OK on the motor,a nd the button popping up before it locks again?

Could be driver's door central locking motor, or possibly the contacts on the key lock on the driver's door.

Something is commanding the ECU to lock it again. ;)

The drivers door unlocks fine and yes the door button pops up before dropping again as the doors relock themselves

When I lock the car using the key the central locking works fine, its only when I use the remote. Could this still be the drivers motor?

I'm not sure, is the honest answer.  ;)

I know that, if the central locking motor on the driver's door fails (as in won't lock the door at all), when you lock the door with the fob, it immediately senses that the drivers door is unlocked and unlocks the rest again.

It senses that the door is unlocked using a microswitch in the locking motor.

So, if that switch were to fail, I would expect similar symptoms as the ECU would detect that the door hadn't locked even if the button had physically moved.

I think that's the most likely cause.
