I've never had a HID set up before. It got me thinking. How do you change the bulb? What I really mean is what precautions do you need to take apart from making sure there switched off? How often do they go? You can tell I'm bored can't you?

Easy enough job - make sure ignition/lights is off (key in your pocket!) and I always wait for 30 mins after ignition/lights switched off before attempting hid bulb swap.

just looking at a spair HID lamp unit ive got looks like you need a T20 or T25 torx bit because theres 3 bolts holding the cover on but the bottom one looks like a right bitch to get to when in the car well 2 torx bolts you calnt even see,
o/s maybe removing the airbox & n/s removing battery would help,
im just going to doit the easy way in next few days by taking bumper & headlights out because ive got new 6000k xenons to fit in all the units on car, Headlight, main beam, fog lights & fit new replacement lenses & De-chrome to black the headlights
But always replace in pairs! because a new bulb will be brighter!
i bought 2 new 6000k D2S bulbs for £14 pair!!
Dont get ripped off by motorfactors charging between £39-£110 per bulb!!! i think the standard bulbs are 4300k
ive gone for the cool white/blue 6000k bulbs
oh normal rules dont touch the glass part of bulb! as the salt on your fingers can reflect back into the bulb shortening its life...

I would state the opposite...
we have had many, doa, early failures, poor illumination, fires etc from the chinese cheapies.
best value osram or philips only imho, at 4300, 5000 or 6000k at a push, no higher.

ok it be trial & error i guess with the £14 bulbs good job i got a 2kg co2 in boot then! :o
But am i right tho about the torx bolts been a bugger to get to in situe ???
i would of fitted osram or phillips but they are rather pricy tho mate! well are for me anyway :'(

I got a pair of D2S bulbs for not a lot more than you paid off ebay - they were Phillips made in Hungary, and no issues with them - fired up ok each and every time, colour/range excellent.
Don't go for blue 6000K bulbs - less light than oem 4300K and optimum 5000K ;)
