Just bought another Omega, a 3.2 2002 facelift estate . At some time in the last few years it's had a replacement engine, I think from Vauxhal and fitted by a Vauxhall main dealer.
The engine number is stamped on a metal plate which is pinned over the original number location. The plate has GM on it as well as the number, which is Y32SE 082358 . The digits are quite clear, there are no more. This seems like an very short number, as well as a very low one. Even with a couple of extra digits it's still low for a 2002 engine.
Can anyone shed any light on this strange number? I shall probably get a new cambelt kit in the future, and don't know which to go for.

Either go to your local main dealer (or better still pm andyc)
You may find that they can type your reg number into the Vauxhall service records and tell you what was fitted and when.

Thanks for that. I will contact the Vauxhall dealer who's stamp is in the sevice book for the past six years and see if they can shed any light.

Pretty sure its the same place on all the V6's - down beside the oil filter. Theres a piccy in the maint guides somewheres.... :y

I realise this is an old thread but it popped up in the search results when I was browsing and as there was no conclusive answer I thought I'd add clarification for anyone who was looking for an answer to the same question.
Y32SE engine numbers are stamped on the block as we all know, however, factory issue replacement engines had the replacement part number, engine code and replacement engine number stamped on a metal plaque which was positioned in the same place as the 'regular' engine number. The replacement engine number is out of sync with the usual number, and is actually a few digits shorter, which is quite confusing if you've only got the one engine to check and you're unaware of this anomaly. I have taken some pics for comparison (I have three 3.2 engines in bits at the moment) so will endeavour to post them up once I've downloaded them from my phone.
