Hi Guys,

Right i know there is rules and legal things behind this but what do i need to do to convert,

I Have a complete set of Headlights with Ballast resistors which i saved from a Scrappy 2.5 CDX 2001,

I Have just projector headlights in my 03 GLS DTi and obviously the fitment wont be the same or will it?

Any input helpfull

Will move this to the relevant section.

Before I do, however, take a few minutes to see the various sections and areas of the forum that would be more relevant to this post.  I have already moved one from you, have I not?

The test area is just for that purpose - to test whether an image or a link works, if you have the correct settings to view on a mobile or whatever. General posts need a specific section which are already in existance.  Saves the admin doing the work you should have done initially....   ;)   :)

Resistors they aint! The square metal boxes are actually high voltage power supplies. They start the Xenon arc at several thousand volts and then produce a stabilised running voltage at a hundred or so volts. So, be very very careful or you will get a very nasty zap indeed - think Taser!  :o

Thought after the initial "strike" voltage dropped to 12 :-\

several kv strike, then 90v I thought...

Just seems a high voltage to keep the bulb at optimum output???

Whatever.  :D.

I might even risk life and limb and attempt to measure it  ::)

It's likely to be high frequency AC, so probably beyond the capabilities of a multimeter. You also risk the voltage rising to many KV if the bulb stops arcing for some reason. The leads on a multimeter won't withstand that, so you'll get a nasty nip, and probably a dead multimeter.

Once the arc has struck, the electronic "ballast" maintains a constant current through the HID bulb, and the voltage can vary quite widely as the tube warms up and through the lifetime of the tube.

good points, well made
