Title: oil changes on diesel cars
Post by: Varche on 07 April 2012, 14:23:56
My neighbour came round yesterday and asked me what I used my level ramp for? Changing gearboxes on Omegas and oil changes on my 4x4 etc came the reply.

How often do you do yours? he asked  Every 5000km ( just over 3k miles) I replied quite pleased that I would be seen to be looking after my Peugeot engine. And you on your 2000 1.7 diesel Astra? Every 1000km (625 miles) but I only use cheap oil ! His is 20 euros for 5 litres, mine 33 euros for 5 litres.

Blimey. It is probably irrelevant as both of our cars have probably never had an oil change before we got them or if they did it was without the filter being changed (except to sell them)...............

unless youre trying to clean out the engine by doing a few oil changes in quick sucession following neglect, changing the oil every 1000km is over the top...

I do mine every  5k - I can keep acount of where I'm up to on the odometer 100k 105k 110k etc. It'd be to complicated for me to remember each 3k ......  ::) ::)  ;D ;D

TBE would bugger up that scheme, as it doesn't do 5k in 12 months ;D

Neither does my Omega, that'll get an oil change before we go away in summer & maybe another autumn-ish, and maybe does around 5k in a year. Not sure it'll do even that any more .............  :-\

NB I was refering to my diseasal Astra for the 5k oil changes  :y :y
