The most harrowing thing I have ever read :(

If you think the Police waste your time and you "pay their wages" you could never pay enough ....

The missive was written straight from his heart, I can tell, and there's absolutely no doubt about it in my mind, that he did everything he possibly (and humanly) could do, to avert this tragedy.

I fully appreciate how he feels regarding the self-centred ~~prats~~ public whose only concern is/was for their own ends - just ask anyone who deals with Joe Public for a living. As you rightly state, you can never pay enough for such heroic efforts as displayed here. Never.

Again Phil, please pass on our sincerest best wishes to your brother, from the Seths.

Just so there is no misunderstanding this was NOT my brother in this story. It is one he found on the many police related blog's he reads and shares on his FB.

He has related many stories to me of the horrifying scenes and hopeless scrotes he has come across in his 25yr service. I am sure he will be grateful for your best wishes and I will pass them on. I know that any recognition of the frustrating and often unrewarded work the police do is gratefully received by them all.

Sufficient to say this is but one aspect of the job – although such thinking is seldom revealed to those outside it - it's one of the many experiences we have as a result of signing up to assume the Office of Constable.

It is also a sad fact that the consequences of witnessing such events over a protracted period of time may well have left lasting psychological effects - seldom discussed, but effects, nevertheless, dire for those who unfortunately fall victim to them.

I saw enough in my 39 years service to do me a lifetime of lifetimes - but that's the way it was. The job was done as it was our duty to do it and the public had an unquestionable right to expect us to do it.

I have often wondered if I made the right decision as I have the utmost respect for those who maintain our Law and Order but frankly I'm not certain I have the strength of character to cope with events such as this .
Back in Scotland I once knew a farmer who experienced just such an event and it changed him for ever.
A harrowing experience .

I know a traffic copper of many years who has told me a few storys like that but as some of the posts in the story say, he wouldn't change his job for the world. Infact, I know he has turned down promotion in the past so he does'nt end up behind a desk.

Respect too the lads and lasses of all the emergency services who have to deal with that week in week out. I don't think I could.

I've been cut out of the wreckage with my feet bent the wrong way under the seat, the dashboard in my legs & the steering wheel in my ribs. I was lucky enough said services got me out with alot of gas/air. It was all my own silly fault but still not much fun. ALL the emergency services are there for a reason.

As with nursing or anything else we take forgranted we probobly would'nt want to do it ourselves so good on those that do. They don't know what they may have to face each shift but it's more than most of us could face.

Post by: Guinney1971 on 13 April 2012, 20:13:15: what a harrowing story, I cant imagine the panic that the poor lad would have been experiencing as he realised he wasnt gonna get out alive :'( I feel sorry for the PC as well who had to attend this, the guy deserves a medal for being so brave.

I support the Police here in Nottinghamshire, people might not like the camera van and patrols in our village (mainly the speeding bikers and chavs going to MFN near Eastwood), but as far as I'm concerned, tough shit.

My cousin, Sally, is a PC in Northamptonshire, she's fed up of dealing with drunken idiots spoilng for a fight on friday & Saturday nights, but thats the job these days sadly for a beat officer.

I wanted to be a Police Officer when I left school, but back then they had height restrictions, sadly I was just over an inch too short to join my home force (Hertfordshire), so I was unable to fulfill my dream of being an officer, so ended up being a secretary at an architects practice.

I'll always have nothing but the utmost respect for the Police and the rest of the emergency services.
