I've had a miss fire lately that's been steadly getting worse. :( She starts, ticks over, and generally runs fine, but has tended to splutter when I plant my foot down! ???
There's abit of an oil leak so I thought that a cam cover was leaking. However I've stripped it down and there's no oil in the plug wells and the cam covers are dry around the outside seals. :-\
I changed the dispack last year after there was a leak in the scuttle, but thats all dry now so I think thats OK.. ::) and I've got a new set of leads and plugs to put in. :)
The plugs don't seem to be in very tight though and I'm wondering if she's losing compression when driven hard, causing the splutter :-\

Misfire normally ignition related - plugs, points and diss pack.
As you've changed diss pack (genuine Vx or Bosch? - asuming OK) next point of call would be change plugs, tightening up to recommended torque.
If still missing likely to be plug lead(s) - are they tightly connected to plugs and disspack?

The dis pack I fitted last year was a pattern one.... ???

May well be ok but at this stage I wouldn't be 100% sure of it ???

I decided to 'whip out' the dispack to have a look and it was wet, but no signs of corrosion, so hopefully it's OK! ::) :-\
I'm going to fill all the recesses on the top of the dispack with silicone, so hopefully any wet that gets in will run off..... ??? :-\
Last time I replaced the scuttle I put enough silicon around it to seal the Titanic.... Not good enough evidently!! :(

Put it all back together, turned the key and now she's running like a box of nails!! :'( Bugger!! >:(

How are the plugs and leads? Is there any oil in the spark plug holes???
-
New plugs and leads! There's something not put back right and I can't think what! I'm probably going to have to strip it all down again...... What a bloody PITA!!! :(

I've just done the paperclip and I'm getting code 19, which is 'incorrect rpm signal'....
Anyone know what causes this? Just so I've an idea what I've done!! ::)
Thanks :)

Crank sensor
Would an iffy crank sensor have caused the original missfire? I'm not sure that I unplugged it, might have tho and might not have replugged it....
-
Hell!! Just spoken to the local dealer and a crankshaft sensor is £67 or £91 + VAT depending which one I need!!
Do these tend to go suddenly? or is there a deterioration? Would something I've done kill it? ???
