Just seen this on the bay of E and I'm very tempted to say the least, the only thing stopping me at the mo is SWMBO. Never hear the last of it if I did. Decisions decisions :-\ :-\ :-\

Had many 4.2's in the past but never had a v12. I know what I'd be buying into i.e. BL = Tinworm. But I do like em.
-
Buy it!
I recently tooled about in a 1994 (XJ40 shape) XJ12 .. awesome car :)
-
I really, really like those classic shapes, more so than the slightly later ones.
Bet that goes for a lot more than its current price.
-
Yeah Tunnie, I love that shape. I'm just hoping ::) it does go outa my price range otherwise I might have to sleep in it if I buy it ::) ;D
-
I've checked on the insurance too, fully comp £215 for the year on a 8k annual mileage :)
-
I loved my 84 4.2, not owned a v12 but borrowed one for couple weeks and loved it! the prices have been rising steadily.
5 years ago i got mine, with the biggest service history ever (his company paid for any and every work for the 10 years he owned it) so no expense spared , very solid and only 90k. we done a straight swap for my VDP1500..... which was a little tatty. i sold it some time later for £800. then last year i spotted it on ebay where it sold for £2400 !! :o

I to am a jag lover, having owned no less than 12, xk120 (3) (mk 5. 2.5.&3.5. ) mk 7 (2) mk 9 (1) mk2 3.8. (2)&xjs v12. (1) & a daimler double6. petrol was a lot cheaper when I ran these cars. still like the old jags though. mel.

The XJ's are STILL the Daddy of all Jags no matter what anyone says. I had a 3.4 N reg Daimler sovereign many years ago. At the same time a mate had an M reg 5.3 & it was silky smooth. No need to tell you you will be looking at 12/15mpg & have you seen under the bonnet? 4 big SU's & strut braces everywhere. Not the easiest of beasts to work on, they're cheap to buy because they're money pits, have your purchase price again in reserve or don't buy.
That said they drive like nothing else & ooze class, taste & decadence, i adore them & would have another anytime.
Yes they chew fuel but at least you can wear the cost in style on the forecourt by pulling up in between the pumps & filling both tanks, going in to pay & saying pumps 11 & 5!!!!! Myself i'd stick with a nice six potter but that is pretty!!!! Guy. 8) :y
-
I would love an XJC but becoming very rare now :y
-
Have the rear wheels got a touch of positive camber?
Nice looking money pit.( I had one for five years and did 50k miles in it.)
-
Lovely motor - go for it mate - I'd seriously consider it if I hadn't just bought my Jag XJ and her Omega Estate ;)
Don't worry about SWMBO - when I was married (back in the 80s) I came home one day with a '72 Ferrari Dino - now that caused aggro ??? Don't know why though - got even more aggro when I started racing it :)
Go for it mate
-
I think I'll go have a looky-see, its only a stones throw away from me, have to make up a good
excuse reason to be in late tomorrow.

Say you're seeing another woman mate :) ;D ;D ;)
Believe me will soften the blow (eventually) :y
-
If that's as rust-free as it looks in the pictures.. I stand by my earlier "Buy it!" :)
-
That look real nice - love those jags!
-
Just depends what the underneath is like aaronjb. Sills are a PITA on them they rot from the inside out. Also it mentions the windscreen having the onset of tin worm - that doesn't bother me much though. Big think with Jags of that era is the suspension mounts & PAS especially wi all that weight of that great lump. I remember a good few years ago doin me dads handbrake on his Daimler (Inbored discs) :o :o :o I swore NEVER again!
It just depends really on the s/history AND a really good visual inspection / test drive. (Oh and the other half) nearly forgot that bit.

Coming round to my way of thinking mate :) :) :) :y

Very nice looking car for a 29 year old :o,he mentions the fuel sender unit being faulty but wouldn't there be two of them fitted?(one for each tank)which would make the gauge itself possibly faulty?,still a lovely motor though and the HE has fuel injection so no carb balancing :y

I actually own a brace of these beautiful cars, one silver and one blue. They cost me £80 each and are 1/12 scale models made by Maisto. They even come with their own certificate.
The real thing cost £403,000... :D :D :D :D :D

With regard to looks ......I fully agree, Entwood. It is achingly beautiful...........Think Cameron Diaz dipped in warm chocolate :-* :-* :-*
That anaemic sounding V6 did it no favours though. :-\ :-\
-
The XJ220 never did a thing for me, looks wise.. it's very.. 'wind tunnel'.
An E-type or XK120, however? Much more beautiful, IMHO. And had the XJ13 ever gone into production, well..

Side elevation, yes. But from the front the front the narrow track means it drops a mark or two. :-\ The later V12 was better in this respect. :y :y
-
would only really have a pre-90's Jag if I was a really competent and practiced welder.
Other that, there's not a lot to fault them. Probably the last truly good-looking saloon car.
-
Back to the OP That looks very clean for it's age, would be great for a weekend car..... :y :y
