After speaking to several mates I am still confused about cruise control, is it more economical to drive with it on or off, any opinions?

Doesn't make a significant difference IMHO. Same engine pulling the same car along, just something different propping the throttle open. ;)

I use cruise, but I think that your right foot is likely to be more ecconomical due to you not needing/wanting to get back to a set speed ASAP like cruise wants to.
Cruise is more likely to be license friendly too .............. set it & forget about your speed. ;)

I've always found the foot more economical, however I'm lazy so use cruise control :).

I have found Cruise to be particularly beneficial on a long stretch of 50mph restriction on the motorway that I regularly use, still used to get people who do not understand 'Average' speed, who would fly past and brake for the overhead cameras, and yes tickets were issued, not to me though.... :y
I do also find it can be a pain when set at 70MPH on motorway or other dual as the way the traffic slows and accelerates you never really have a clear 70 MPH run............Great in a 30 or 40 town zone though... :y :y

With DBW, I'd say not much in it, but on the older V6s, right foot is noticibly more economical
-
yep, for my journeys at least, right foot more economically than cruise :y

The only problem i found with cruise on an auto is if you get to a bit of a slope it will drop it down a gear and if you were using your foot you would have seen it and sped up before,
