I am attending a function at Balliol on Saturday afternoon. I've heard that Oxford is very unfriendly towards us motorists and that park-and-ride is the best option. Having just had a look, it seems that most are served by buses only from Mon-Fri and the ones that do have a service at the weekends offer only a half-hour service. We'll all be dressed to the nines, so the last thing we want is to wait around at a bus stop for ages. Any help out there?

Oxford is a pain in the bum for parking when I last needed to go and I checked it out - went by train - Balliol is half a mile from station. Easy for me from Blackwater/Camberley but from NW7 you have to get to Paddington of course.

I don't know what it's like now but I had my car nicked from Oxfords park and ride and used in a riot on black Bird Lee estate. As the coppers were completely useless over the situation I have never returned to Oxford and never will. So if you go, go on the train and give the park and ride a big miss.

There are limited spaces in St Giles or you could try Westgate Car Park. You will always get a space in Westgate Car Park but it is expensive. Both are in the centre of Oxford.

I frequently drive into Oxford city centre from my house in Kidlington. I always park at the end of St John street, 1 minute walk from The Randolph Hotel. I've never had a problem, but Oxford can be daunting sometimes. It is likely I may either be in Derbyshire or Bath on Saturday, but I may indeed end up at home. If I am at home, you'd be more than welcome to leave your vehicle with me and I can drive you into Oxford, only 4 miles from my house. Buses do actually run fairly regularly, it has been some time since I used a bus to go into Oxford though.

There's a fair bit of pay and display on street parking around Balliol, on Broad street, and st Giles... but it's always busy, and on saturdays, you'd be lucky to find a spot,. i think it's time limited as well. but that's as close as you can get to Balliol
juts a few hundred yards further there's an expensive underground car park, under gloucester green market/bus station, turn right at the end of St giles, down beaumont street and turn left just after the hotel etc... the car park is down the ramps to the right at the end of the road opposite the gloucester arms.
i'm not impressed by the park and rides, some of them now charge you to park AND for the bus in to town, and are about as secure as a bag of chips on a seagull infested seafront.
I'm not sure whether i'll be around , or i'd say park at my place and i'll drop you in town,

I'm minded to "pay up and look big" and park in one of the centre car parks suggested. It may be expensive, but I really don't fancy the park-and-ride alternative.
Let's see how rich I feel tomorrow morning! ;) ;D

Hmm,may be better to park in the big sainsburys(heading toward Kidlington) just off the ring road and get a bus into the centre?
Oxford as others have correctly stated has been ruined totally by the car haters, used to be great to get in and out of, but now, i would rather go to anywhere but!!

A few parking spaces around, generally spaces outside of Saturdays and office hours. Westgate will always have (narrow) spaces, and smells of wee, but expensive.
