Title: WHY!?? DIS pak/ Ignition coil
Post by: PLANETNZ on 14 April 2012, 12:34:56
HI guys!
just out of interest..
how the hell can a plastic/ceramic SEALED component such as Bosch companent number... whatever the DIS pak/ coil so easily destroy itself on such a regular occasion with just a bit of water dripped on it!?? (either scuttle or HBV!!?)
Only thing i can even remotely think of is theres a standard or normal voltage leakage that when introduced to a conductor..IE water gets in and it craps out, Is this just a bad and or faulty design (i already know the answer!...)
Not sure about your side of the planet but down here we call that a prosecution!

Yes mines crapped out and the replacement cost here just for the part is over $800nz / over 400pound...

Pissy kiwi!

Yep, $hit design!

The engine was, of course, built to be transverse mounted for front wheel drive and they couldn't be ar$ed reworking the coilpack location for RWD.  The 2L Carltons were the same - the HT cap was on the end of the camshaft tight up against the bulkhead!

I'm sure someone can post one to you, but can you wait for it to arrive?

I've just had my Dis-pack out and at the time thought what a crap design with all the recesses on top for the water to collect in. :(  I've filled all these with silicon so hopfully any water that gets in will just run off!  ???

£400????  :o that sucks! I'm looking to make some kind of shield for mine and have removed the sponge from under the scuttle...
In the mean time, I will monitor it and see what goes on under different conditions....

They don't last forever, wet or not. Although if there is a problem with the dis PAC water will just help it on its way.

V engine on front wheel drives has the dis well away from under the scuttle. They still fail.

I think you could probably get one shipped from here for a quarter of that price including postage
