They are really great, aren't they?
I remember buying Adobe Illustrator 7.0 some years ago from Adobe. They then kindly offered me Illustrator 8.0 at a great upgrade price. Then came Illustrator 9.0, CS2 and finally CS5 design suite, which I am using now. I have saved quite a lot of money over the years.
But now I have a snag.
I have built a new PC and I have Windows 7 64-bit installed.
Right, I thought, now to load all my programs afresh.
CS5 won't load without CS2 being on the system, which won't load without 9.0 being on the system, which won't load without 8.0 which won't load as it's not compatible with Win7.
Grrrrrr! >:(
Think I'll leave it for another day when I have more patience. ::) ::) ::)

Dunno if it's the same with adobe but windows used to install if it saw the old install media in the cd drive.

Depending on which version of windows 7 you have you may have an xp virtual console built in.
If so try installing earlier versions under that.
If you have a look on the Microsoft site at compare versions it'll let you know what has what.
Also, have you tried installing in compatibility mode?
Finally, may be worth contacting adobe, they can be quite helpful ime.
Sounds like you purchased the upgrade versions and not the full packages, which retail for less but do have these issues......with such a long upgrade history though, adobe may be willing to replace with a full version if no other solution is found

I've been thinking ( ::) ). I may hook up my existing PC and copy the program file directory from this one to the 1TB Drive D on the new one. That way...maybe...the installation CDs will see that I've got something pukka already installed and will allow me to reinstall on Drive C on the new PC.....I think. ???

It's probable that the registry entries and also the dll's from previous versions would need to be copied also, as it may check for these as part of the upgrade process. Dll's will most likely be in the windows folder on the main drive, but knowing which ones belong to what probably won't be easy.
In my opinion, given the time and money spent on the new machine, and of you use the suite regularly, or for work, I would speak to adobe first, as the cleanest and best install possible will be worth the extra day or so spent to achieve, rather than cursing at the thing in 6 months time.
If its a known issue to adobe, they may well have a patch that can be downloaded.

I have the entire CS5 collection (5 DVD set) which is designed to be installed from afresh rather than just upgrading if you want to try that with your licence key.

Thanks, Guys. I've cracked it. I tried loading InDesign CS2 and that gave me the option of inserting the product key from an old version of Pagemaker.
Should be OK now! :y :y
