Never been a ford fan, tried 2 of thier offerings and it was enough for me.

But I have to admit having being in a 2.9 Scorpio the Leather seats were about the best I have seen in a car.

Very Soft Sumptous Leather

The Scorpio version (2.9 V6) was very, very nice ... had one for 9 years .. I thought it would never be beaten as a tow car and general luxury barge ... then I bought the blue Omega and changed my mind within a month .. :)

my first car was a chipped 1986 2.0i ford sierra lx. that flew. i loved that car. til it ended up on its roof. its demise was inevitable though. the sea didn't manage to drag it away 6 months earlier when it ended up on the beach so i figured it was only a matter of time before something else killed it...

i had 4 of them, 1 x 2.0l L mk2, 1 x 2.8 ghia xi mk 2 metalic black (best car i ever had) 2 mk 3's a 2.0 GL and a very very rare one of 40 only made 2.0 Scorpio ghia xi, i actually traded this in for a (DO NOT TAKE THE PEE NOW PLS) meganne... :-/ :-/ :-/ :'( :'( But i asked the sales woman what was to happen to my beloved granny, she told me that it would just go to the block, why do you wanna buy it back, how much i brightly asked, have it for a quid, i bought it back for a quid :D, good job to, the soddin renault broke down on the way home ;D ;D, i phoned them up to come n get it the next day i washed my hands of the french car, then i bought the passat the next week.

I drove these as taxis when i was still down south, good tough, comfy motors. When they reached M. reg. the bosses started buying 2.0 petrol Migs or as my boss called them "Amigos" hence my handle. I loved them straight away but they cost too much for me to have one of my own then, plus i was still a family man so my own car was a Chevette! Don't laugh that little car never gave up & you adjusted the tappets with the engine running using the rule of 9.....
    Who remembers that? :D

Don't remeber doing with any running engines, but when no 1 valve fully closed adjust no 8 brings back memories of several engines !!

I must be honest, I preferred the Mk1 and Mk2 more. Also the Consul which was similar to the Mk1.
The auto gearboxes on the Mk3 was dodgy.

I had a mk 3 granny a while back not bad for its day and didn't have a lot go wrong with it. I've noticed a lot of people who drove Grannys and scorpios have progressed to miggy's

My DAD had a few of these, always told me I was not insured to drive it, till the day came when it suited him for me to do so, great cars, thought I was the Sweeny  ;D ;D ;D

Think that MK3 got to be good value for the money, even as a run around. :)

Rule of 9 ie 1 & 8   2 & 7 etc etc was when you did the tappets static You did the CIH with hydraulic 'tappets' when the engine was running. Great method of covering everything in oil!  ;) I used an old rocker cover on my Manta & 2.2 Carlton with a hole cut in the top so I could get to the adjusters.

My last car was a 2.9 Scorpio Cosworth. Without question, this is the most comfortable car I've ever driven. The leather seats were soooooooooooooooo comfy and the leather is as soft as a baby's bum.

I sold it because it was even more expensive to run than my Omega  :o.

Problem was Chevette had no middle engine options, also the Sunbeam top model was still more powerful.

I have seen a turbo one too :o

vx in their wisdom put stromberg carbs ,cast iron manifold, points ignition on the hs.lotus put 45 dellortos, tubular steel manifold, electronic ignition on the sunbeam.my hs had 48 dellortos, blydenstien manifold, lumenition ignition (approx.175 bhp) .it was quiet a bit quicker than lotus sunbeams, happy days. :)

Sounds fun - I think the suspension as standard was better on the HS but the Lotus with a slight lower and ges struts was better.

The 2.2 was detuned to about 150 - 155bhp but quite a few are around 200 now.

Come to think of it how many of todays hatches would you have over an HS or Lotus
