Title: My Omega with new front lip and prep pictures
Post by: Deuce on 05 May 2012, 21:36:07
Got the lip from Poland along with a rear spoiler. The lip spoiler has Irmscher on it, but is surely a GRP item from an Irmscher spoiler or mould.

The rear boot spoiler fitting is on the back boiler for now, as I'm not sure about drilling holes in the boot unless I am absolutely sure I will like it.

Here it is finished.

As it arrived and trial fitted. I was surprised the spoiler fitted on the bumper tightly, I reckon I could have driven it without attaching with screws. It came with grey gelcoat and the smell took me back to when I built my Deuce hotrod.

Here on the dining room table with the rear spoiler after unpacking, from Poland.

Some mould marks to rub down flat!!

Rubbed out the gelcoat gloss with 240 grit.

Two coats of etching primer. I used a can of Upol, #8, from Halfords.

Tack ragged and ready for Star Silver 2. I used Star Silver 2 as I could not find the correct SS3 in Halfords and when I painted the top of my front bumper to repair a star crack (s'cuse the punn) I found I could not tell the difference with SS2 anyway.

This is the lip after two coats of SS2. I did three coats in the end.

I followed with two coats of clear also from Halfords, after 24 hours to allow the undercoat to dry off. I did not rub down the silver as it is metalic and I tried rubbing down when I did the bumper with disastrous results, having to do it again. So I just sprayed the gelcoat from primer to clear without any rubbing down. This is my dog's couch, by the way.

Then I fitted the spoiler to the car again. I used two screws on each front wheel arch and number plate/ trim double sided tape along the top edge. I let it alone for a week.

Today, I rubbed the lip down with T cut, then polished with McGuires Gold class polish, followed by Mcguires Gold class Carnuba wax. Not a perfect job, but good enough considering I done it on a budget.

Next to it's buddy, my Capri.

Yes, they are carlovincriminals. They don't seem to advertise in the UK anymore, or on UK ebay.

I contacted them via email and their response was fast and the spoiler cost £55 plus £25 postage. I got the rear spoiler for £55 as well and no extra charge for packaging. Paid by Paypal and got the items within 2 weeks.

It's actually no lower than the rubber strip under the bumper. Although the rubber strip does sit a bit further back, closer to the wheels.

It's a MK2 1.3L. Rare as hens teeth now. I bought a Granada 2.0 litre pinto to put in from a mate, but decided to keep it as stock as possible.

Has an interesting history, which I should put on another thread I think.

I think CCI are still going. I'm in a local hot rod club with many members from the Ipswich Capri club.

I got a very similar one waiting to go on to the front of my ,mig. Mine fits so tight as well that it probably wouldnt fall off left as it is, and its such a good fit as well. It has been likened to the Steinmetz item. Keith B

Nope, nothing to trim. Just rubbed down a couple of mould lines near the edge that folds behind the front wheel arch on either side and a couple of pimple things here and there.

Mine is quite thick on the top edge either side, and it doesn't follow a straight line either, I think I have a little work on it....
