He's caused a bit of a storm, but he's spot on about this and echoes the comments I have made about positive profiling (which is used at Tel Aviv and other places).

He is right I suspect.
However, not being a traveller....I assume everybody goes in the same queue ??? But you can't say..'all the English in this queue' and everybody else over here, because that suggests 'colour' segregation. Meaning English to be white.
This is one of the penalties you have to pay because this country is 'multicultral/multiracial.'
I happen to live in a 99.9% 'white' area, but, only 3 miles away, that area produced terrorists which were from the Asian community. So I think I fully understand what Clarkson is getting at. Its a 'read between the lines' job.

Actually there are four queues at Heathrow T5 (and most places) - Non-EU, EU, Iris and e-Passport.. of course thanks to the appalling layout of the passport hall in T5, you can't get to the (quicker) Iris or e-Passport lines once the regular lines back up :-\

Actually, thinking about it IIRC...did not the census forms class us as British white, British Asian and British other. I may be wrong.
If this is the case, then why can't aisles be titled as such. I think this is what JC is talking about :y

No, it's not about colour or ethnicity per se. There are Caucasians in Europe who do not share our culture and would be happy to see its downfall. :(
We're talking about terrorism/immigration issues here. The point he is making is that a family of four from, let's say, Devon, who are returning from a holiday in the Dominican Republic should perhaps be treated with less caution than a young male travelling alone on a one-way ticket from, say, Pakistan. I would call it positive profiling. Others would call it racism. ;)

I read Clarksons column yesterday and found it funny and so true. He was only saying what the rest of us non heart bleeding liberals think, a bit of common sense goes a long way. I can't remember the last time my BRITISH passport was checked, as for the rest I would check every bloody one including the EU, and if they have to wait 4 days so be it. :y :y
-
:y Spot on with that comment mate.

Don't know where you travel outside the Uk, but I suspect checks are made on you if you provide API (advanced passenger info) to your airline. In other words they know that the person associated with your passport is on the move. Now what if it is a false passport.............

Clarkson for Prime Minster!

+1
but what he as said and what he means has yet again been taken out of context... :y

he is so bloody right :y :y :y :y

I mean on returning to the Uk, they might take a cursory glance if that.

Peter Hitchens is absolutely spot on, on the same subject imo (towards the bottom of his column)>

It seems stupid to me. You have limited resources to do a job. Do you target those resources at the statistically more likely threats, or on stopping non-threats to balance your statistics to keep the bleeding hearts happy? >:(
Politics these days.. ::) You can have any colour of limperal you like.

That's quite correct K - some may remember the infamous Gate 18 at Heathrow T2 and the baleful stare of each of the SB officers as they 'welcomed' everyone from Belfast 'International' onto the soil of the homeland that lay promisingly beyond the end of that long corridor.
It worked very well indeed. :y
-
Exactly Den. :y I can well remember flying Heathrow/Belfast or vise versa. We were treated differently to everyone else.herded like cattle, treated with the utmost suspicion, kept segregated etc.
It was far from pleasant, and today many people would very quickly develop a large chip on their shoulder because of it,but most people accepted that it was unavoidable due to the small minority of headcases who came from the same place we did,we had to put up with it for the safety of all innocent people.
Thats what we need to get back to. :y
-
Try bringing a van with NI plates through Stranraer.
SB guys were a lot happier when I produced a UK passport but still put the dog in every time.
-
They never sniffed out my supply of Poteen secreted behind the doorcards in my chevette. ;) ;D
-
If i was in the truck with English plates I got waved through, but the van with NI plates and rover got his exercise.
Always got stopped by the two RUC guys with machine guns at the checkpoint going into Aldergrove too.
Then any gear for the terminal had to go through the xray scanner.
Not as amusing as going airside at Newcastle, they frisked me, put my phone and baccy tin through the xray machine then came out to check the truck. Got in the cab, searched my bag then opened the back took a quick glance inside and waved me through. I could have had 3 tonnes of semtex in the back but they wouldn't have known unless I'd put some in my fag tin or butty box.

I know what you mean, last time I employed the 'security' staff to open up a hole for me in the queues so I could go through 'iris' Should have seen the looks and heard the grumbles of discontent....I just smiled nicely at them...

I usually find myself half way down the regular queue and then realise that the e-Passport queue is the one 'just over there'.. ;D
Might actually register for Iris next time I go out and save myself a bit of time on the way back (if I'm lucky)
