Hello again, my facelift 'y' reg 2.6 estate has a temp gauge that is neither working or illuminated, is there the faintest chance that this could be as simple as a loose connection behind the cluster? Or do I have to fit a new sender? Any thoughts? Cheers,Col

I'd have thought the illumination & operation of the gauge are two separate problems. If you find the blue wire that should go to the top of the temp sensor (right at the back of the engine in the middle of the V - sat on the coolant bridge) and connect it to a good earth, the gauge should go to HOT. If it does, then that proves the guage & you have either an iffy connection on the temp sensor or a failed sensor. :y
