Title: Omega depreciation
Post by: Vamps on 19 May 2012, 20:15:48
This subject came up on another thread but thought I would post separately, keep that one on subject ish :D ::)

Just sold an estate for £200, I bought it in 2007 for £1200........so depreciation of £200 per year, I think that is pretty good..... :y :y  It has never failed, it has been serviced, had a cambelt, a crank sensor a second hand dis pack through oof and a new set of front disks and pads, cost £50 following a tip off on here..............I wonder if that is all i will need on the Jeep over the next 5 years, they are all 'service' items and therefore expected costs...... ::) ::) ::)
I could have saved more money had I done the work myself... :)

I was quoted £140 per ton at the scrappy and he said estate is about 1.5 ton so that would be around £210 then.
Just got £650 on flee bay for mine (assuming the buyer turns up as he's gonna have to spend about £200 squid in petrol from where he lives to me !)
As it happens i have lost about £800 per year in depreciation on mine but thats fair enough i suppose.

I bought my 12 year old Omega in 2006 for £2250 and assuming I could get £500 for it now  ::)  I've lost £291 a year in depreciation....  ???  That's not bad when you consider the depreciation my poor car suffered in the first 6 years of it's life!!  :o

I cannot afford to depart with my Miggy......its in good nick, 12 yrs old....but if a repair bill came in for , say £500, that is still cheaper than getting another car ;)
What could you get for £500 that would not require repairs at any time. Providing the Omega is serviced, and looked after properly and not thrashed out of existance, why should it not last a lifetime. :)
I had an 1985 Senator for fourteen years that only cost £500 in breakdown repairs in all that time...and that was due to to a pratt at hometune with a wrong diagnosis. Yes it had new tyres, and exhausts, but every car has to have that!!!
The car was sold on still in very good nick (begrudgingly, I might add, due to personal circumstances)
As some Omega's do have to be scrapped, so the list of spares increases.
How many VW Campers do you still see on the road....so why not Omega's :y
I appreciate that insurance is not cheap, mpg is not fantastic, and tax is not cheap...but come-on....look what you get back in strength, style and comfort  ;)

So, in a nutshell, if my Miggy is worth zilch on the market, to me it is worth thousands...... :y

Have to agree with than and probably most will think that about the omega ... dread to think what mine is worth but to me its not about how much its worth its what you get out of owning the car  :)

P.s if you want it its £650  ;D

Oh dear.  :-[

I bought my 3.2 elite when it was ten months old (ex Vauxhall management car) so I am averaging depreciation to the tune of over two grand a year. Just to prove that I don't care, I've done that twice with Omega Elites now. I couldn't believe how much I lost on the first one so I did it again and lo & behold, it happened again.  ;D ;D

Easy come, easy go.  ::)

I lost about £1600 a year for 10 years - same as previous poster - but no regrets. If I had kept it just 2 years out of 10 then it would have been something like £4000 a year at the time.

I bought my elite estate very cheap (£700 with60k on it)as the owner wanted it gone, ran it for 18 months and got £1500 when I sold it,quite a positive outcome I think :y :y

I bought Daisy 3 years ago for £1,100. Since I got in to doing the DIY work and as I know the car I want to keep it as long as possible. If she dies for whatever reason I'll definitely be purchasing another immediately....assuming Ralf is still fubar'd  ::) Well having said that I prefer the FL anyway but that's just me

I was after that motor at the time Opti but funds couldn't strech with the Mrs still being a student >:(

However bought my current omega for 1500 with 55000 on it two and a half years ago, done just shy of 135000 now, so forgetting servicing costs (have them with any car) it owes me nothing so not really bothered what its worth maybe a few hundred quid.  Certainly one of the most cost effective motors ive ever had :y

Yes, they are excellent value for money. Mine came from a former OOF member. It had the cam cover gaskets changed by Elite Pete just before purchase and was in immmaculate condition. :y

It was originally for sale at £2495.....then £2295......£1995.....£1700.......£1650. After negotiation we eventually agreed on £1300.  :y. It still drives like a new car. :y

Its good to see so many feel as I do....lets face it, most of us have got cars that were about £30,000 when new, and we have paid a pittance for them. Speaking for mine....I have everything the original had, it all still works, only difference is the milage, and mine had the equivalent of what they call 4 years average mileage at ten years old. :y

Thing is....how much would you be prepared to pay for repairs if something really nasty went wrong?  When would you say 'No more...I am going to get a new car' :y
Have to admit...unless it starts to go silly with rust underneath, mine stays :y

The only problem I've experienced with my MV6 was a "donald" oil cooler. This was sorted out, along with fresh oil and filter, by Marks DTM....who charged me well under half what VX wanted. After repeatedly flushing the cooling system I refilled with a 50/50 antifreeze mix. :y. Not missed a beat since then.

Mine had to go as the Mrs said it stinks ! Well i was using it during the week for work and then 'cleaning' it up for our weekends away and it did smell a bit if i'd got the boot full of paint and plaster. But it was still one of my most favourite cars and one of the few i've been able to stretch my legs out in.Absolute rubbish road handling and frequently stuck in the mud or the snow so its been replaced by a nice low mileage 4x4 Nissan Xtrail.I would have been very tempted to keep it (and still may do) but i really can't afford two lots of bills.
