Title: Had a visit from the police today
Post by: Jay w on 05 April 2008, 22:01:07
Was down at my friends garage today fixing sister-in-laws Corsa, my wife calls....

The police were at the house and want to have a word with me!!!!!  :o

Spoke to them on the phone, something ha happened to my old Omega, Avon and Somerset Police have asked the local police to pop round and ask me some Q's about who i sold the car to, when i sold it, how much i sold it for ect.
Gave them all the info they wanted, they even asked where i was last week, luckily i was in london at work
The car has been involved in an incident, that's all i can find out currently, i doubt i will ever find out.
I just hope that no one has been hurt as a result :-/

I had a similar visit a few years back when living in Worthing -- at 3am! Real brick passing experience!
Asked if I drove a blue opel manta ( which I did at the time) and had I been to Winchester this evening ..... yes to the car, no to Winchester. They wanted to see the car ... so they had a look and said they were satisfied that it wasn't my car they were looking for. Apparently the car they were after had crushed some poor guy against a wall and practically taken his legs off and would have been severely damaged ( not to mention covered in blood!). They were, however, concerned that the number given by witnesses matched mine.
A few days later they phone to tell me that they found the car -- it did have my number plates -- I had been "cloned".
Further investigation on my car revealed it was a blue manta at one end and a white one at t'other !!!  Luckily the cut and shut repairs passed a "Ministry" inspection and I was allowed to keep the car --- never heard any more after that !!!

my mate was approached by a man at a petrol station a couple of months ago asking if his car was for sale, his 1996 RS2000, "yep, everythings for sale at the right price" so the guy says "i'll come round tonight with £1200 cash, will you sell it to me?" and my mate says "deal"

he sold the car, then a few days later he was not only questioned by police, but arrested!

he managed to prove he sold the car though, it had been involved in a hit and run on the evening it was bought

Hi Guys,
Similar thing a fews years back now.
Sold a Ford Granada after having it outside with usual for sale sign on.Two guys turned up ,paid in cash, got them to fill in my own receipt form with their details.

2 weeks later  police turn up at my door asking about car .To cut a long story short - it had been used for an ARMED ROBBERY in Wembley and then dumped.

After answering all their questions and giving them details of buyer ( which was false so the police said) I never heard no more.

The thing is that when you sell a car thre is no proof of who you sell it to ..   only the details that they give you. This would normally be correct otherwise new owner will not get a Reg. document ... unless of course the buyer wants the car for an illegal reason ! :-/ :-/

A few years ago (1994) I sold a Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia. A young lad of about 17 came to see it, we agreed a price and he paid me in cash and took it away there and then. About 4 months later a policeman knocked our front door and asked for me by name. My ticker was racing away as I asked what I could do to help him. He told me a name and asked if it rang a bell, immediately I remembered it was the lad who had bought the car. "When roughly did you sell the car" he asked. I gave him the exact date from my change of insurance, about 4 months. The lad had lost control of it and rolled it on the A51 near Rugeley, and when questioned said he had bought the car that day. It turned out that he was a provisional licence holder and had no insurance!

is there any way i can find out what happened or would it be covered under the DPA?

I would imagine this is something Brucie would know the answer to
