Title: voting
Post by: flyer 0712 on 23 May 2012, 22:38:56
I see that Europe says that banning prisoners from voting is illegal ...so David Cameron is thinking up a reason to block it....i thought that if you were put into prison that you lose all your rights, but does this include voting,,,what do you think..?????????????

so David Cameron is thinking up a reason to block it

Does he need a reason?

The following suggests that our own 'sovereign' parliament has spoken and voted on the issue - unless the views of properly elected representatives do not matter when faced by the edicts of unelected and unaccountable officials who are part a foreign legislative group.

A backbench debate was held in the House of Commons on Thursday 10 February 2011; the motion, which supported the continuation of the current ban, was agreed on a division by 234 to 22.

If they're banged up for a crime they should lose all rights - no votes, no TVs, phones etc etc. By committing a crime and getting punished for it you forfeit your rights.  Bread and water??  Slopping out?? Yes to both :y

Prison is a punishment not a luxury hotel!

I watched a 92 year old woman repeatedly ask for the toilet, repeatedly ask for a drink, repeatedly asked to be made more comfortable in her bed,ask for her teeth to be found so she could eat etc. and was ignored for hours on end this week,in an NHS hospital.
The lady concerned was an amazing character. She was a proper cockney, mouth like a sewer, mind as sharp as a tack and she took no crap from anyone, but she couldnt badger the staff into giving her decent basic care.Anyone with a quieter disposition wouldnt stand a chance. She was left sitting in a draft with only a thin nighty on,and was rubbing her arms to try to get some heat into them.
The patient in the bed opposite was a retired nurse and was appalled at how things are run now.Between us we got her bed made, made her comfortable in it and gave her a drink of water.I told her she looked like a little princess, she smiled and was happy and content for hours after. It only took two minutes ffs.
If we treated prisoners like that there would be rather uproar. Theres something very badly wrong with this country. >:(

Sadly I wonder how much of this is the results of the massive pay rises nursing received a few years back. Is it because it now attracts people for the salary and not because they care.

I went to the dentist on Tuesday (NHS patient) as I walked back to my car a very new mercedes 2 door convertible pulled in, the driver was femal and in nurses uniform. Now obviously I don't know this womans circumstances but to me it gave the wrong impression.

You must have seen the e-mail flying around....suggests kicking out the prisoners to care homes and putting OAP's in prison....then each party receives the proper care, with the OAP's paying nothing!!!! :y :y :y

Give prisoners the vote....crap.....give us the vote whether they get topped or birched >:( >:( >:( :y

+1 :y......Nail on head. If they can't exist in society without breaking the laws of the land, why on earth should they have ANY rights??! Unfortunately, the powers that be in this country have gone completely soft in the head and prison sentences for criminals have become an extended vacation at our expense. >:(

Sorry...this has got my hackles up now.......

With modern forensics, the chance of getting it wrong are slim.... the government argue against that point and a wrong may be inflicted on a piece of scum.

But its not wrong to send decent people meaning soldiers to Afghanistan to be killed...a few hundred, I believe >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Never give them the vote >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( :y

I believe it would involve large fines being levied against the U.K. repeatedly until we comply.

In which case the court could decide to confiscate U.K assets within the E.U. I would imagine. ;)
We must realise that E.U law and its courts have jurisdiction over our laws and courts. If we feel strongly that this is wrong then we must fight to leave the E.U.
There is no in between, half way house as our polticians seem to imply, they are trying to fool us into believing that they havent really surrendered sovereignty to Brussells -  they have.

Thanks Albs...great reply...leaves for no misunderstandings :y

To be honest, I have always felt that if EU decrees the population of the UK must give Westminster more money, then govt attitute is 'Its EU law...we must abide'
However, when its a case of Westminster giving to the population, its 'Don't tell us how to run our country'

Halfway house as you say, Albs :y
