Title: HID XENON BULBS- HELP NEEDED 4300k 6000k 8000k & 10000k
Post by: kaiza on 24 May 2012, 00:42:24
Hi all

Need a little help and advise if possible, I have searched the forum but have had no joy. I have an 02 plate omega 2.2 saloon, I believe I have HID Xenon, my Dipped beam has a dome liked shape lens ( I assume the bulb fits behind this dome) please correct me on this if I am wrong. And please advise whether or not I have HID Xenon.

I have been looking at bulbs just as a replacement for my existing ones, just looking around to get better & brighter bulbs. I believe I need the D2S bulbs?

But their are many options available, what are the standard bulb power fitted on my omega? also I have been looking at the bay and they come in many different powers ie 4300k 6000k 8000k and 10000k, what would you guys recommend? and can My omega take up to 10000k.

Any advise will be much appreciated.

That is the correct part of the light yes. All of the facelift cars have lights like this though so the easiest way to tell is look at the headlight switch inside the car. Does it have a wheel to 2 adjusters or 1 on it? If it has 2 then you'll need to pick up a HID kit first. If you only have an adjuster for the interior lights then you have factory xenons.

D2S I think is right yes but get someone else to confirm that. I'd stay away from the cheap bulbs too. They don't last well at all. Lastly, the k rating isn't the power of the bulb, it's the colour temperature. 4300k is OEM and is a bright white. 6000k is bright white with a hint of blue, 8000k is much less white with more blue 10000k is getting towards a purple colour. As the k level goes up, the amount of useful light goes down and to not attract attention from plod, stick to either 4300k or 6000k.

If you are looking for brighter bulbs I would guess that you do not have HID's.  The "projector" headlamps could have either conventional bulbs or HIDs.  Do you have self levelling headlights and headlight washers, if not you do not have HIDs (unless an aftermarket kit has been fitted)  The k rateing is nothing to do with power but indicates the colour of the light output.  4300k is close to daylight and is my recommendation, higher values are increasingly blue.

They must have a washing system & self levelling ability to be legal. Is your 2.2 a petrol? Only Sport & CDX came with HIDs

If you don't have headlight washers on bumper you have projectors

Nope, current legislation is a form of levelling whether auto or manual

No, not unless somebody has already fitted a conversion kit.  Why not look and see what bulbs you have fitted.

Which probably aren't legal* anyway.

* Its conversion kits that DfT are trying, quite rightly for once, to stamp out.
