Title: Possible Alternator Problem
Post by: coop1952 on 26 May 2012, 19:34:46
My 2.6 2002 omega came to a sudden halt today and I had to call out the AA. They jump started the car and tested the alternator with a volt meter and it was putting out around 12.5 volts. Is this below what it should be producing and does it suggest the alternator is kapput?

Thanks

Simple answer: Yes

Long answer: have a read through this maintenance guide Battery, Charging and Starting Diagnosis (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90619.0)

Before you condemn the alternator check the condition of the crimped connections on the battery, they are prone to breaking down.

Car was a bit sluggish to start in the morning and thinks stopped working like the indicator light worked but didn't tick and the radio didn't work but no light came on the dash.
