Title: vibration
Post by: Bob G on 30 May 2012, 17:43:25
For variyning reason I found myself in 80mph bracket and noticed a vibration now its not coming from the wheels, my reason for that is the steering wheel is rock solid, seems to vibrate as though engine is missing, once speed drops to 70 or belwo it goes away.

Space left for the replies laong dont drive at at 80+ then  ;D ;D

So any ideas please.

Your tyres all ok? I had a rear tyre with a bulge on the inside wall that made driving at similar speeds a problem. I was scratching my head until I got home and got under properly to find it.

ive had the same problem at 70+mph mine was caused by a severe pothole which dented the inner rim of wheel. ;)

They do need replacing as do the bushes, so maybe that might be the cause, will update.

Got the same between 79-85 Bob. Vibration seems to emanate from the floorpan, never sussed out the cause :-\

Vibration throughout the whole car is often an unbalanced or buckled rear wheel or perhaps a failing UJ in the prop shaft.

I had that on the Tractor Estate (but did not know what the problem was) until a rear tyre exploded on the M40 with the car fully laden with heavy PA gear
