Hi guys as above, going from park to reverse has just all of a sudden become hard and then a bit of a clunk when it gets there. all other gears are silky smooth and slide in to position easily.
Car is on 91000 miles and i have no proof the ATF has ever been changed.
Also last night someone went in to the back of me :(only 5mph and only s slight scratch on the bumper could that have damaged anything gearbox related as it seems just a bit coincidental?
cheers all

ive seen this happen to some sports types cars new types but they imobilise the engine so cannot be run, 5mph should not of done any damage to gearbox, dose it work without the engine running chock the wheels so mig dont roll back etc.

yeah its all working fine mate. only problem was this gear hard to get in.... when i keep moving it it eventually becomes easier

i think some one said on another page that R has its own oil for gear, have you checked that, or the slecter, was you reversing when the bump happend?
-
Try parking it "the correct way" and let us know if it makes any difference. That would be:
- stop the car
- put in N
- apply handbrake making sure it bites
- then put it in P
Sometimes when you just "park it" putting it straight from D to P the car moves abit after that putting some severe tension against the "lock" on gearbox causing it to be sometimes very, very difficult to get it out from Park.
this bump you have had will not have any influence to gearbox. As we all know, there is no mechhanical connection with drive gear and engine and therefore the bump can not make any harm. The torque converter acting as a "fuse" in many cases, so in this also :y

Is the interlock releasing correctly when you press the brake pedal?
Worth a try shifting it while activating the release lever under the gear selector boot to see if that helps?
I guess the engine and gearbox might have shifted in the collision, and this could have bent the gear selector lever between lever and gearbox, but I'd expect it to be misaligned in the other positions if that were the case.

Thanks guys.
The only time I noticed it was coming to the car when it was already in P. Stuck it in reverse and thought ''hmmm, that was a bit stiff''. Then I moved it through all the guys and as i did that it got easier and easier.
im at work at the mo but will properly read the replies tonight
thanks dudes.

As a matter of course I would check, or change, the ATF, if not done previously; 60,000miles is the OOF recommendation, to eliminate the fluid as the guilty party. :y
-
as already said, chances are the handbrake wasn't on or wasn't on properly, causing tension on the parking peg which releases with a big thud.

Webby, was the car in park when you got hit up the bum?,could be that the impact has slightly damaged the park pin in the box causing it to be stiff :-\

Agreed firstly I would change the ATF and clean the filters.
As for the the oil specially for Reverse as suggested by Rusty (freecall666), what can I say ::) ::) ;D ;D

I suppose you could check them as well, probably more chance of solving the problem with the autobux.
