Title: doorcards and side airbags?
Post by: mathewst on 02 June 2012, 08:24:10
Have to take the doorcard to correct the window problem, but I recall there was a mention of posible problems with airbags if sound proofing nylon is removed.
What are the possible problems and can I simply remove the nylon and put it back on?

When your finished, tape the cover back up as best you can, ie not flapping about etc.  If you don't you'll also suffer from a draught and extra wind noise :y

Thanks blackviper but that doesn't worry me much.
But the possible airbag problems if removing nylon does make me worried

Where a vehicle has a pressure sensor inside the door panel, it is important to seal the door panel as best you can to allow pressure to be created upon impact. It forms part of the information for the side impact airbag sensor.
It also helps to prevent the door card getting soggy if any water goes down the seal.

Not sure if all vehicles with side airbags have pressure sensors.  :-\

That's my take on it but I may stand corrected.

If you have to remove lower plate where side impact sensor is fitted, refit it at the end, and make sure its secure.

No issue withe the water membrane, but remove without damaging, and refit :y
