Title: earth problem?/rev counter.desperate for help
Post by: jhmv630 on 04 June 2012, 10:53:58
hi peeps. first of im new so again hello.
I have a 98 3.0 manual mv6 with a bit of an issue. For some reason when trying to start the car the rev counter goes to 2400rpm with no fuel or spark. I had the fuel pump working manualy and had a couple of sparks but thats it.
I had a similar problem before and it turned out to be an earth strap/lead. I have an earth from passenger side of the engine to the chassis, front of the engine (of the air com pump bracket) to the battery , one from the battery to the chassis and around 7 small leads that all go to one fixed bolt to the chassis just under the battery tray.is there any missing.
Is somebody able to conferm the location of them all. I have changed the engine and its been a while since its been going properly  but was going just hours before this issue occured. could it be anything to do with a lambda sensor.
Im now at my witts  :-\ end with this we have spent hours trying different things to get the dam car started again and it just wont work.
Any info apreciated. cheers guys

hi. i changed the ecu and all other modules together but changed them back to the originals as it was suspected that was an issue in the past. the car has been running with its current ecu and other modules. i even drove it briefly before an earth issue was caused then repaired then this same problem again.

Go back to basics and try not to jump to conclusions.
The batteries good and its cranking but not starting Next step is to check for any stored codes.

hi, thanks for all the replys. i fixed it . it was as i suspected an earth but not a missing earth it was one on the coil pack bracket that just needed a quater of a turn. a very stupid porblem that caused mayhem.

so now shortly the fully kitted mv6 will be for sale.
