Post by: Steve B on 09 June 2012, 17:35:22
stopped at the lights and car was ticking over poorly.. it was running on 3 cylinders and on came the car/spanner light.

got home and had a look at what codes it had stored   p0303  cylinder 3 misfire detected

Check plugs first, see whats what.

When they do fail, it is usually on pot 3 or 4 from my experience. Mine failed at 105k, father T's at 120k

Check for oil/water in plug wells, and the state of the plugs.

Whilst coil pack is out, see if there are signs of breaking down (cracks, normally with rust marks, or arcing marks).

I use Bosch coil packs, bit cheaper, for my V6, but no idea whats available for those without a proper engine :P

I've never owned a 4 pot Omega. UnLucky enough to have driven no end though. The 2.2DTi is the best of the small engines IMHO.

But the petrol 4 pots plod along nicely if you're Miss Daisy, and not too uneconomically.

Last v6 one I bought was around £75, so guess a ton for a quality pattern.

Ideal job for it, as it won't pull the skin off a rice pudding, so a gentle tow ;)

Apart from when you get told off for driving too fast  :o

Although did take a while to get up to that speed, I'll defend the 4pots to the death. Underrated engines, doddle to work on,  DIY jobs on that a pleasure to do.

But V6 is not a proper engine, a V8 is  :D

Couldn't be arsed to disconnect propshaft, thus that limits a tow to 50mph max.

There was an element of, knowing how bad your suspension is/was, I could easily turn you the other way as well ;)

Post up hires pic of each side of coil pack.

For info, I can get either of my coil packs out of the 3.2 in under 5 mins, including getting the tools out :)

Just because you have two split "boots" doesn`t follow that both would "miss". Have you swapped #3 plug to another cylinder to confirm actual plug is good?

Not sure I like that white area between 3 and 4 in top pic, and the boots.

Thought, I'd swap plugs 3 and 4 over, and see where fault goes.

looking at that area now with it in my hand yes it is a little light

i will swap the rubber round 3 and 4 and see if any change  ..but cannot see split rubber causing problem but may be wrong :-\ :y
