hi guys, has anyone got a good spare starter motor for a 3.0 mv6 in the south wales area? one kicked the bucket last week and the ebay replacement is about as much use as a chocolate handbrake!

i never had trouble buying tools or anything else on there,but twice i bought car parts and had bother with both items, getting a bit weary now! ;D . i dont mind travelling to buy one if anybody has one near(ish) to me

thanks for the offer mate :y but....the omega,s going on the back burner for a bit,just looked at the mot certificate and its up,not only that at 150000 its starting to get a bit tired,so while looking at the gallery pics on here an some crazy idea popped up in my head. later today im doing some work on my brother in laws astra vxr turbo so the measuring tapes coming out and possibly i might be looking for a wrecked vxr to pull the engine out of! ;D just an idea at tho mo,but i really shouldnt take too much notice of these forums they make you do crazy things! :D ;D

should be an interesting project if you decide to do it... Mk.5 Astra had over 230 bhp, I think, but you have a lot more scope for tuning than with a GM v6. Not that I'm an expert or anything!

something could be happening here! physically it will fit no problem,a few minor things like the plumbing and wiring to sort out,but the price on them engines is worth more than the car.....however.....as much as i,m distrusting ebay lately theres a few c20xe engines going for a reaonable price and with plenty of parts on the market for tuning as well as rear drive conversion kits available, plan b might turn out better and save a few quid as well. then theres a c20let to consider! i suppose the wife is right i cant be left alone for five minutes! ;D ;D :y

righto lads and lasses let me pick your brains on this one... had a job cancelled today which gave me the afternoon to look over the omega, the ebay starters still clicking like somethings sticking in there and sounds similar to a flat battery,when the cars jump started it spins over and starts lovely. checked the battery again,voltage ok at the battery terminals when cars running and engine switched off,swapped the battery with the one on my ford explorer,starts the explorer fine,explorer battery gives the same effect on the omega, wont start unless jumped,voltage is fine at the starter and battery terminals. looking on ebay i see omega spares sell the loom from the battery to the alternator and starter, are these know for problems? just wondering is there something wrong with my loom that i have missed?

Check the crimps where the cables connect to the battery terminals, they are known to become loose/corroded which will give the correct VOLTAGE under no load , but are unable to carry the CURRENT required to drive the starter.
The fact that you can jump start it makes me wonder .. but it depends how you are connecting the cables to do the jump...
If you are connecting direct to BOTH battery terminals (which is wrong BTW) you disprove my idea straight away ... :(
If you are connecting correctly .. positive to battery, negative to chassis (NOT battery) then the fault could be in the battery negative line, at either end ...
If you are connecting both leads direct to the starter then you are proving little IMHO ....

thanks for that,i have connected the leads to the battery and the battery/chassis to eliminate different things but still the same effect,starts first time unless the jump leads are off. the only other thing i can think of is the second hand starter must have been lying around in the scrapyard for a while,possibly built up condensation/corrosion internally causing some resistance and the extra current going to it gives it enough of a push to get going? just a thought as crazier things have happened! fingers crossed i can finish early tomorrow and strip the loom out and check it and the terminals

good news today,got a full refund on the duff starter and ordered one from omega spare parts :y ,even got a fiver knocked off! brightened my day up after a fiddly job on a peugeot 207! ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'd stick with the starter you started with. :-\

going by local prices for reconditioning one the cheapest was £40,so for £25 delivered it made sense. if things werent so tight lately it would have had a new one, but after starting up my own little buisness and buying a some new equipment funds are kinda limited ::)

Am wondering if you've got an earthing problem here?
Try connecting a jump-lead from the battery negative terminal to, say, a good point on the engine block, such as a manifold stud/nut.
Then try to start it!

tried all that already mate, had on of my mates pop in from his garage earlier to throw some fresh ideas at it ,but came to the same conclusion its the second hand starter, just one of them things i suppose! cannot complain though nearly five years of ownership and aside from servicing and doing the rocker gaskets its the only time its let me down. not bad for the £1200 i gave for it in 2007! where abouts in the valleys are you from?
