Title: gear lever gaitor
Post by: Old Fella on 13 June 2012, 07:35:09
Hi Guys
I need to replace the manual gear lever gaitor on my F/L estate. The new gaitor I have purchased needs to be fitted into the original plastic surround. If anybody on here has done this job, could they pass on any tips please.
TIA

Easy peasy m8. Its just clips that hold it in, or it was on mine when I did it but they are tight so take care when you prise it out.  :y

Could you explain this in a bit more detail please!
Thanks

He means that the new gaiter fits to the white plastic surround, with spring steel clips. When I fitted my cream leather ones, decided to use a hot glue gun to make life easier. When the whole gaiter/surround is clicked into position, it won't move.   :y

I've replaced mine also.
Clips didn't help cause leather was thicker than original one.
Had to glue it in as Agemo suggested.

Thanks for the replies! Mine was a bit different! After separating the outer plastic retaining assembly, I found that the gaitor was attached to the lower half with metal staples! After carefully removing these, I replaced the gaitor with a new leather one and rebuilt the whole assembly using glue.

The whole thing is a great improvement!

I stand corrected. Just checked my old one, which had staples. Glad you're sorted anyway.   :y
